Kamp Kindness
We are very excited to announce that we are launching our 2nd year of Kamp Kindness again this year! Students had such great successes with our SEL initiatives last year that we are looking forward to rolling out our new lessons this year. We were able to learn so much from our students and families during these last few years. Our students taught us so much about what they needed to be better learners in school. We also received some really great and wonderful feedback from our partners, YOU! the parents and guardians, to tell us some more about our students. Therefore, we have responded with a few new changes to our focus this year. Below are some of the key points that we will be working on with students during our first 5 - 8 days of school together before we delve right into academics. We strongly believe and continue to learn that by taking the time to establish strong relationships with our students better ensures they become successful learners, and will feel safe and ready to learn.
Important Key points about our SEL 2022-2023 Initiatives
We draw our knowledge and foundational information for our unique lesson designs by using the 5 main components of Development in Social Emotional Learning according to CASEL (click here to learn more). As part of our school-wide initiative, Madison will focus on 2 of these components this school year through the Kamp Kindness program:
We will continue to explicitly teach Social Emotional Learning through the use of our Second Step curriculum across grades K-5 in order to continually and consistently foster all areas of student social and emotional growth and development.
Students will learn about utilizing explicit Success Statements to better identify their progress in learning; how to become more self aware; and how to manage their behaviors and their emotions within their learning and social environments.
Students will work on learning to explicitly identify the language and meaning of emotions as they naturally grapple with the challenges of getting to know who they are, what they expect of themselves and of others and how they better learn independently, cooperatively and by socializing with others.
Sneak Peek/ Supply Drop Off/ Meet the Teacher
We welcome all of our students K-5 to Madison on the afternoon of August 23rd from 12:45 - 1:15 p.m. This is meant to be a very, very quick visit and drop off of supplies at school. Students will have a chance to see their new classrooms and quickly meet their teachers too!
Curriculum Night
This will take place on Thursday, September 1st. This is a parent only event and Entrance through Door #1 - Main Entrance. Dismissal Time Pick Up Spots
Please plan ahead with your child for a designated pick up spot. Let them know where you will meet them at dismissal time.
