The Math Academy Way
I AM! I CAN! I WILL
What is Math Academy?
In 2008, The Community Math Academy was established in response to school data that revealed low performances in math among certain populations of students in Cleveland County Schools. A new partnership emerged as key community stakeholders joined with area churches, pastors and school leaders to mobilize community support and ownership of the Math Academy. The goal of the program is designed to equip students with rigorous academic coursework and new kinds of knowledge and enrichment that will position promising students to meet academic success through high expectation, nurturing and community engagement.
The Community Math Academy is held for 4 weeks during the summer for 3rd-8th graders. A rigorous, creative and engaging curriculum encourages students to believe in themselves, as they master the grade level skills and concepts necessary for successful classroom performance. Certified teachers are hired, as well as, other necessary staff to ensure that the day-to-day routine is exciting.
