Hak 3 Family Final Newsletter
2015-2016
May 20, 2016
Dear Parents and families,
Happy Friday! It has been another fantastic week and so hard to believe there are only five days left. This year has flown by, and I want to take a moment to thank you all for what an incredible year it has been. I hope your child has enjoyed third grade and has fond memories of it for many years to come. I have truly enjoyed this group and will miss them dearly. Look for some memory items to come home next week!
I was able to pull and listen to all of the students read this week. It was the last part of spring testing. Yay! Students will be bringing home a data sheet next week with all of these test scores. If you have any questions once you receive them, please let me know.
Students have been working on reader’s theater this week and sharing their scripts! We have also been continuing to write poetry. This week we worked on a Diamante, Bio Poem, and free verse poetry. Students will be completing their poetry books next week.
In math, we finished up unit 9 on multiplication. The test will come home next week. We have been working on some skills from unit 10 on measuring, coordinate grids, and graphs. Next week we will wrap up with learning about volume and playing a variety of math games.
We completed our study of crayfish and said, “Goodbye” to our friends as they moved on to their new homes. Thank you to those who are now hosting a crayfish friend!
We are continuing to learn our cursive uppercase alphabet. Students will bring this packet home and are encouraged to continue practicing cursive over the summer.
Next week will be our final week together. Yikes! Here are a few of the events to note:
Monday, May 23rd – V.I.P. Day – We will write letters to some very important people.
Tuesday, May 24th – Walk to Valley View Park Picnic
We will leave school at 11:30 and be at the park until 2:05. Please have your child bring a WATER BOTTLE, sunscreen, and he/she should wear sneakers! If he/she signed up to bring a lunch from home, please send this on Tuesday as well! I hope many of you can join us! Siblings are welcome to join as well!
Wednesday, May 25th – eXtreme classroom clean-up and board game fun!
Send an extra plastic bag with your child as they will be cleaning out their desk! Please also have your child bring a board game to play with his/her classmates. The board games will go home at the end of the day.
Thursday, May 26 - Yearbook Signing
Students can bring in their yearbooks, pillow cases, t-shirt, journals, etc. and a pen/Sharpie for students in all of third grade to sign.
Friday, May 27 – Zoom into summer with a walk and ice cream treats from McDonald’s.
We will be walking to McDonald’s after recess around 12:20. Please send no more than $5.00 with your child to buy a treat. If you would like to walk along with us, we will leave school at 12:20. If you do plan on joining us, we will walk back around 1:15, and I always enjoy the last hour with only the students. Thank you for understanding.
Finally, I want to take a moment to thank you all for the support you have given your child and me this past year. You have been wonderful to work with and have such amazing children. I am going to miss this group! As I will tell them, please stop by and visit next year, the next, and so on.
I hope you all have a wonderful, safe, and fun summer. I will be returning with my family to Maine for our 13th summer where we help run a large, residential summer camp. If you want your child to do some letter-writing this summer. I do love to get mail!

Please encourage your children to stay in a reading routine and continue to practice math facts this summer, too! Both are so important!
Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you again for a fantastic year!
Sincerely,
