Greenville Little Theatre is coming to Spearman
Miss Nelson can't control her crazy classroom because she’s just too nice. But when she disappears, her replacement is the hard-as-nails, detention-loving, recess-canceling, homework-overloading substitute teacher Viola Swamp! With the Big Test approaching, the kids suddenly realize how much they miss Miss Nelson and they’ll do anything – including hiring a private-eye – to solve the mystery of her disappearance and bring her back.
The Greenville Little Theatre is bringing their play, Miss Nelson Is Missing, to our school for two performances on Thursday, November 7th. All of our students will be able to see this exciting event. Third, 4th, and 5th grades will watch at 10:30, and K5, 1st and 2nd will see the show at 12:30. Mr. Lesley has approved charging students a $2.00 "in house field trip fee" to offset the cost of the show. A flier will be sent home with your students in the near future.

New Books Worth Noting
The Caldecott is given to the most distinguished picture book for children created by an American artist. The Newbery Medal is the most coveted award for best chapter book for children.
I think you'll agree that these are all worthy of the notice they are getting.
Mr. Tiger Goes Wild, by Peter Brown
Counting By 7s, by Holly Goldberg Sloan
In the tradition of Out of My Mind, Wonder, and Mockingbird, this is an intensely moving middle grade novel about being an outsider, coping with loss, and discovering the true meaning of family.
Willow Chance is a twelve-year-old genius, obsessed with nature and diagnosing medical conditions, who finds it comforting to count by 7s. It has never been easy for her to connect with anyone other than her adoptive parents, but that hasn't kept her from leading a quietly happy life . . . until now.
Suddenly Willow's world is tragically changed when her parents both die in a car crash, leaving her alone in a baffling world. The triumph of this book is that it is not a tragedy. This extraordinarily odd, but extraordinarily endearing, girl manages to push through her grief. Her journey to find a fascinatingly diverse and fully believable surrogate family is a joy and a revelation to read. - Dial Books for Young Readers
