School Counseling Program

Woodfill Elementary

Attention all Fathers/Father Figures!

We have an exciting night planned just for YOU and your child/children!

In the video below you will see a sneak peek of what will be coming to Woodfill this school year!

Take a look...

Watch D.O.G.S. on the NBC Today Show

Fathers and Father-Figures, you matter.

That's right. The research to support your value is endless. That's why we are bringing Watch D.O.G.S. to Woodfill. Our two primary goals are:

1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.

2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

Mark your calendar!

Save the date for Tuesday, January 26th from 6:00-7:30. We will have FREE pizza, an awesome speaker, and a chance to sign up to be a part of this program.

A special invitation will be coming home with your child THIS week. It will be on bright orange paper. Please fill it out and return it to school ASAP. It is important you RSVP if you plan on coming so we can have a head count for the pizza.

Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Night

Fathers and Father Figures are invited with their child/children to join us for a pizza night.

Please email me for any questions you may have prior to the event.

Let's Put First Things First in January

This month we will be learning about Habit 3, Put First Things First. All students will be hearing a story from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. This story is about the character Pokey and how he puts off studying for his spelling test. Instead, he did the stuff he wanted to do and then had to cram for his test. Here are some baby steps recommended by Sean Covey that you can challenge your child/students:

1. The next time you have a lot of homework to do, do the hardest part FIRST.

2. Think of something you've been putting off for a long time, like cleaning up your room, pumping up that tire on your bike, or fixing that broken dresser drawer. Go do it right now!

Dear Sam...

Sam is just like us! He also struggles putting first things first. Challenge your child/students to write Sam a letter this month.

Classroom Lessons

All grade levels are wrapping up units on empathy and moving on to emotion management. During the course of this unit, grade levels will be learning how to pay attention to their bodies for clues on how they're feeling. We will be learning more about strong feelings we experience and how we can control our bodies. I look forward to spending time in your child's classroom this month.

Small Group Counseling

We have several small groups wrapping up this month. All teachers will be receiving information about the next set of small groups that will be starting in February. These groups will last 6 weeks and will meet 1 time a week for 30 minutes.

If your child would be a good fit for any of the following small groups, please contact me.

-School Success (listening, self-control, paying attention, studying, organization, etc...)

-Friendship (resolving conflicts, forgiving, meeting friends, joining groups, etc...)

-Family Changes (divorce, incarceration, separation, moving)

-Grief (Coping strategies after losing a loved one)

-Anger Management (Learning to control our big feelings)

-Salvaging Sisterhood (A girls group for dealing with friendships & self-esteem)

-Self-Esteem (feeling confident about who you are)

-Social Skills (primarily for students in K-1, learning basic social skills for school and social success)

Individual Counseling

I am available for short term counseling for students who need additional support academically, socially, or personally. Students may leave me a note anytime in my mailbox located outside my office. Also, teachers and parents may refer a child for counseling.
