Peet JHS Course Selection
All you need to know to register for 2021-2022!
DEAR PEET CUB FAMILY, Normally we would present this information at our academic elective night, but due to COVID we have put information needed for registration in this newsletter. There is also info on the Peet website including extra forms and FAQ's. We are looking forward to working with your child throughout the spring semester course registration process. We are dedicated to making this a smooth and successful transition.

Level & Honors Comparison ENGLISH
Level & Honors Comparison SPANISH
All general education classes, level and honors, are college preparatory. The ultimate choice on which core course, level or honors, you wish your child to be in lies with you as long as it is made before the final deadline of April 9th.
- Honors courses taught at Peet, CHS 9, and CHS prepare students to be successful in Advanced Placement, Dual Credit courses, and beyond.
- Higher expectation of students
- May move at a quicker pace than regular courses
- Be wise in making course choices for your child based on his/her unique characteristics
- Changes from honors to level and vice versa will not be accommodated after the April 9th deadline.
Required Courses - 7th Grade
- Language Arts Honors or Level
- Writing Strategies (ALL Level LA Students will take this course)
- Mathematics - Pre Algebra Honors or 7 level
- Science - Honors or Level
- Texas History - Honors or Level
- Physical Education - Girls Athletics, Football, Soccer, Xcountry, Private PE, Dolls or Cheer may substitute for a PE class.
- Electives

Level 7th Grade Math
Pre-Algebra Honors (Eighth Grade Math, one year ahead)
Algebra I Honors* (High School Course, two years ahead-Requires credit in 8th grade PreAlgebra which must be taken (or tested out) before enrolling in Algebra I)
*High School Course credit is recorded on HS transcript, but is not included in the calculation of HS grade point average.
Math - 8th Grade

Level 8th Grade Math - Pre-Algebra
Algebra I Honors* (9th grade math, one year ahead)
Geometry Honors* (10th grade math, two years ahead)
*High School Course credit is recorded on HS transcript, but is not included in the calculation of HS grade point average.
English Language Arts - 7th & 8th Grade
Honors ELA will have more in-depth material with an expectation of a quick pace through independent work. Honors students have ELA in one class period.
7th grade LEVEL students have ELA in two periods. ALL students in a Level ELA class are scheduled for Writing Strategies. Level ELA is partnered with this class and will take up two periods in the student schedule. 8th LEVEL ELA doesn't not have a separate writing class. 8th ELA is only one period in the student schedule.
Science - 7th & 8th Grade
Level Science
Honors Science
Independent Study Project is required: Students have three options
Science Fair Project (traditional testable hypothesis)
Engineering Design Competition (partner required, design, build drivable robot)
Sci Stories (research, video documentary creation, website design and creation)
All options are research based endeavors
Time commitment outside of school is approximately 38 hours of preparation
Science Fair is traditionally on a Friday in Jan/Feb
EDC is traditionally on a Saturday in February
Sci Stories is a campus based competition with only 10 advancing to regionals
Texas History - 7th Grade
Level Texas History
Honors Texas History
This course is designed to prepare students for subsequent Honors and Advanced Placement courses in Social Studies.
The curriculum focuses on critical thinking, application of concepts, and strategies for analyzing primary sources.
Development of writing skills is emphasized to promote success on Free Response Questions and Document Based Questions in AP Social Studies courses.
US History - 8th Grade
Level US History
Honors US History
This course is designed to prepare students for subsequent Honors and Advanced Placement courses in Social Studies.

Physical Education Requirements
Students take PE for one year in seventh grade.
Students take PE an elective in eighth grade. PE is not a requirement for 8th graders.
Athletics may substitute for PE
Girls or Boys Athletics (Football, Basketball, Track)

Cheerleading
Dancing Dolls Drill Team
Private PE
Off Campus Physical Education also known as Private PE
- Jan. 20 - Off Campus PE/Private PE Vendor Meeting
- Mar. 15 - Off Campus/Private PE Applications open online. All applications are due May 1st.
- April 9 - Last day for Off Campus/Private PE requests at Peet
