Newsletter for the January 17th, 2022
Students Return Tuesday, January 17th, 2023
Message from Mrs. Chavira, Campus Principal
Rattler Community,
We are excited to start Week 3. We hope you had a restful and enjoyable three-day weekend in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This past week we had some amazing things happening at The Ranch. We were able to announce our 2023 Teacher of the year, Mrs. Rosario Quiroga. This is a great time of year when teachers come together to select an educator to compete at the District LEvel. We are very proud of all of our finalists and excited to support Mrs. Quiroga in this great journey.
This week we will begin our Afterschool Rattler Round-up and we will have two Saturday CAmps that your child may be invited to. In December and the first week of January, our teachers analyzed their data and identified specific skills that students may be lacking. They have diligently planned and are prepared to address the needs of students. We ask for your support in ensuring that your child attends both Tutoring or Saturday Cakmps as they approach the event they receive an invitation. We continue to work towards closing in on student instructional gaps. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please reach out to their classroom teacher.
Please continue reading our newsletter for important updates and events happening this week. Things you will find below include
- Celebrations (Teacher of the Year, Lexia, and STUCO)
- Parent Involvement Opportunities
- Spring activities for students.
- And much more.
Thank you for your continued support of Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary and #TEAMSISD.
Respectfully,
Cristina Sanchez-Chavira

SPRING VSP Track
Weekly Attendance Report
School attendance is critical for all student learning. Anytime a student is absent, they impact their learning and that of their peers. Teachers have to redesign lessons to address the needs of students that we absent. For this reason, our goal is to make sure that all healthy students are attending school every day.
We are proud to announce that Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary had the highest attendance in the elementary division for the month of December and is ranking 3rd as a Year to Date average. Thank you for keeping our Rattlers safe and making sure they are attending school every day. Below you will find our grade level and top classes as well as an announcement for our Attendance Student Incentives for the Spring Semester.

Calendar sign-up and additional opportunities to get involved will be shared during the meeting so bring your days available and eagerness to help us finish the year strong! Thank you to all our parent volunteers who supported our campus during the first semester! We look forward to strengthening our program and having you all on the Ranch!
Valentine's Day Grams
Shook’s Special Education Department will be selling Valentine Grams for $5.00 each to help support our students attending the Spring James Butler Games. Grams will be sold beginning on Tuesday, January 17th, and continue until supplies run out. Valentine Grams will consist of a plush teddy bear and a special message tag.
Grams can be purchased by students with the order form that will be sent home. Extra copies can be picked up in the front office.
Parents may also purchase grams for their students in the front office from
7:30 am - 3:30 pm for the same dates. If you are sending the money with your child, please send the exact amount. Please note that on Valentine's Day, we do not allow any type of deliveries from parents or outside companies for students. Consider purchasing Valentine's gram to be delivered to their classroom and help support a great cause!
Let's take action to be happier and kinder TOGETHER
Socorro ISD teams up with Care Solace for mental health care coordination services
The Socorro Independent School District has partnered with Care Solace, an organization determined to calm the chaos of mental health care coordination, to expand access to community mental health and substance use treatment providers for students, staff, and their families.
Care Solace provides a Care Companion™ team who can quickly and confidentially find available providers in the community. Care Solace also equips SISD with a customized online tool that gives community members a way to anonymously search for community-based providers matched to their needs.
“Socorro ISD provides endless opportunities for students and staff to succeed. We are proud to partner with Care Solace to give our students, staff, and their families even more support, especially in times of need,” said SISD Superintendent Nate Carman, Ed.D. “This is a great resource that will enable us to enhance the care and support that our dedicated SISD leadership team strives to deliver daily for all students and staff.”
SISD will use Care Solace to support its mission of optimizing each student’s academic, artistic, athletic, career and interpersonal opportunities and to provide another layer of assistance for each student’s social and emotional well-being.
With Care Solace, families and staff gain access to a dedicated Care Companion™ to navigate the mental health care system on their behalf, calling providers to find the right fit and availability. They help families with private insurance, Medicaid, and no insurance, and are available 24/7/365 in any language.
Care Solace’s care navigation system uses proprietary technology and a vast database of behavioral and mental health care resources to find carefully verified therapists and programs in minutes.
"The effects of loss, isolation, uncertainty, and fatigue brought on by the pandemic continue to pose new challenges for students, staff, and their families," said Chad Castruita, Founder and CEO of Care Solace. "We are proud to support Socorro Independent School District in prioritizing the well-being of its school community by providing timely access into mental health care and substance use treatment services.”
The Care Solace service is now available at no cost to Socorro Independent School District students, staff, and their families. For more information about Care Solace, please visit https://www.caresolace.org.
Lunch Charges for students with reduced or pay lunch
Ensuring that students eat everyday is important to our campus and cafeteria servcies. Students that go through the lunch line will always receive a lunch. It is equally important that we:
1. Make sure students have funds in their meal account
2. If you would not like them to not accrue any charges, to understand your requests of not going through the lunch line.
Currently, we have a school balance of $1794.59 dollars. Students with balances can affect their transfer status and items can be held until balance is paid such as final report cards, campus incentives, etc. We ask for your suppor in making sure meal balances are taken care of. Please pay at your earliest convenience using the link provided .
In the event your economic status has changed, you are always able to update your application. Please reach out to our cafeteria services for additonal support.

Attendance Reminders
We know our students will become ill throughout the year. For this reason it is important that when our students are healthy, they are attending school everyday. Lost instructional days do not only impact your child's education but also the education and dynamics of all students in the classroom. For this reason, MAKING EVERYDAY Count is critical for the success of your child and all students on campus.
The state of Texas holds administrators and parents accountable for attending school daily. At 5 absences or tardies, you will be asked to have a meeting with administration to make sure we are working together to educate your child. Please help support our teachers by brining in your children ready to learn. We thank you for making attendance a priority.
It is vital to submit a NOTE, from the doctor or a personal note, for EVERY absence to explain why the child missed school.
You can email all Personal and Doctors Notes to: attendancesueshook@sisd.net
