Staffing Update
Miscoe is sad to say goodbye to chorus and general music teacher Heather Robbins. Ms. Robbins has had a tremendous impact on our programming at Miscoe and we will miss her greatly. Events in her personal life made it necessary to leave her position at Miscoe. She has expressed her gratitude for her time with us and with your children and counts it as a highlight of her career.
We are fortunate to be able to welcome Alyssa Parsons to this role. She comes to us with the education and experience we look for when filling this important position. She will start with us on December 5. Between now and then, Whitney Simmonds, Nipmuc chorus teacher, will be supporting the learning at Miscoe. We are grateful for the collaborative approach of our music department at the secondary level to make sure students' learning is not interrupted.
Girls Who Code
The Miscoe's Girls Who Code club is open for enrollment!
Girls Who Code is a global organization founded on empowering young, aspiring women to be involved in the STEM industry. It has taught over 500,000 girls, women, and nonbinary people how to code.
At Miscoe and Nipmuc, we continue these efforts and work to promote bravery, sisterhood, and activism through fun online tutorials and activities that will help you build animations, games, apps, and other things that you dream up! As a club, we will learn the basics of coding in languages and platforms such as Java, Python, and Scratch. We will then identify real-world problems we care about and apply our new skills to work in teams to design and build a Girls Who Code project to help solve those problems.
Members will meet with Mrs. Lopes and volunteers from the Nipmuc Girls Who Code club twice per month. Our first meeting will be Friday, November 18th from 2:45-3:45. Students will need to be picked up from the Miscoe lobby at 3:45pm.
Experience with coding or computer science is not required, so whether you’re a beginner or a computer master, you’re invited to join the movement!
Interested? Complete this form with help and permission from an adult at home. Send an email to klopes@mursd.org if you have any questions.
Learn to code and change the world!
Box Tops
Did you know boxtops earns money that gets sent directly to the school of your choice? That can be Miscoe if you help!
No more clipping boxtops, receipts are scanned into the app below and quarterly earnings sent directly to the school - an easy way for us to earn money!
PTO Donations
The PTO accepts flat donations all year long! We would appreciate contributions of any amount to fund activities, materials and events throughout the school year. The best part? 100% of money earned through a flat donation will go directly to the PTO to enhance our children's school experience!
It's easy - just scan the QR code or send a check into school made out to Miscoe PTO!
Still time to order Books
Book Fair
Over $5,500 in books (no trinkets!) were sold - half of which we can use for books for classrooms, kids and the library. We've already donated $550 worth of books back to teachers and students during the fair! Thank you!
