Donations
We are just three weeks from our event, but we are still in need of donations for our live and silent auctions. Please stop by the office and check the donations binder. Contact Leslie Buerger if you have any questions at lesliebuerger@gmail.com.
Sponsorships
We are so amazed by the generosity of the McNear community! We have received a record number of sponsorships for the Wish Benefit. These funds go directly to help offset the costs of our event as well as help promote your business/organization. If you are interested in sponsorship options, please contact Kelly Valera at kval415@gmail.com.
Tickets
There is still time to purchase tickets at the discounted rate of $55. The week of the event ticket prices will increase to $60, so get yours today at www.biddingforgood.com/wishbenefit/campmcnear.
What Is Campfire Chic?
This is a causal evening that is partially outdoors, so think comfortable, cozy clothing you would wear to a bonfire. Jeans, flannel, scarves, wool sweater, or jackets are all great options!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
WE STILL NEED A TREASURER!!!
Are you good with spreadsheets and dream about numbers? Do you like writing out lots of checks to support a wonderful school? Then consider being the Treasurer next year! We need a detail-oriented person who can attend monthly meetings, maintain the financial books, supervise the PTA budget, and write lots of checks. Most of the work doesn’t require your presence on campus, so if you work this is a great way to contribute to our community. Contact Neil Smith (cheersguvnor@gmail.com) or Heather Jennings (mailto:hlbjennings@gmail.com) --our incoming PTA Co-Presidents.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Book Fair
We had another successful Copperfield’s Book Fair a few weeks ago. Thanks to our supportive community, we were able to purchase $392.39 worth of books for teachers. We also received a check for $1, 046.49 to be used to fund PTA projects and all McNear students. Way to go!
WHAT'S HAPPENING NEXT WEEK
PTA Meeting
The April meeting will be on Monday, April 2 at 6:30pm in the Library. Don’t miss this meeting! We will decide what the Wish Benefit Paddle Pledge will be. We have some awesome choices … so make sure your voice is heard! You can only vote if you’re present and a PTA member. Childcare will be provided.
After-School Enrichment (ASE)
Spring ASE packets will go out on Wednesday, April 4. We're pleased to announce that we're offering a few new classes that are sure to fill quickly! Hocus-Pocus, a magic class, will be offered to 3rd through 6th grade students on Tuesdays, and Martial Arts will be offered to students in all grades on Thursdays. We are also excited to offer Red Ball - Jr. Team Tennis on Mondays. This class will be offered to ages 8 to 12 and will require instructor approval prior to signing up; contact Patsy Love at love.patricia023@gmail.com to inquire ahead of time.
WHAT'S COMING UP
Family Bicycling Workshop
McNear is hosting a Family Bicycling Workshop on Saturday April 7. This workshop is free, but families must pre-register online to be guaranteed a space. The Bike Coalition’s Safe Routes to School Program has developed these workshops (which have taken place all around the county) to teach families how to ride together safely and confidently; they include both skill/safety drills and an instructional ride and take place from 10am-12:30pm. Appropriate for Grade K-8, open to Petaluma families. For more information and to register, visit: http://www.bikesonoma.org/family-bike-workshops/
Variety Show
The Variety Show is McNear’s annual showcase of student-performed music, dance, comedy, and theater. This year it will be held on Friday, May 18 with a school performance at 9am and an evening show at 7pm.
This event is open to any student, Kindergarten-6th grade, with a special talent or skill they'd like to share with the school. As always, we are encouraging “variety” by way of song and dance collaboration, parent/music teacher participation, skits, comedy, demonstrations, and movies. Be on the lookout for a packet with details and sign-up information. If they are interested, please encourage your student to start putting their act together now. The more prepared the better the show!
We are also hoping to have four 6th graders to serve as our official emcees and a few 5th and 6th graders to serve as our lighting and stage crew.
Dates for your calendar:
Auditions: 4/24, 3-4:30pm
Coaching Session: 5/1, 3-4:30pm
Mandatory Rehearsal: 5/17, 3-5pm
Shows: 5/18, 9am and 7pm
