Immunity
Most everyone that receives this newsletter at least has some experience with the power of natural health remedies. Maybe some of you are like my dear husband and feeling a bit overwhelmed with the recent news of respiratory viruses and Ebola. My husband did what so many will do, he ran out to Wal-mart and bought hand sanitizer and Lysol, and antibacterial soap. He didn’t understand why I was upset and ask that he return the items. "Why can’t I continue to use the products I have always used," he said. Well the answer was much longer than he was willing to listen to at the time. So I have dedicated this newsletter to my loving husband and hope that someone else might learn something too.
Antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers most often contain Triclosan – the FDA is trying to determine now U.S. if it is effective or possibly harmful. One state has already banned it in products by January 2014. “Recent studies of triclosan in animals have led scientists to worry that it could increase the risk of infertility, early puberty and other hormone-related problems in humans.”
The other primary ingredient in hand sanitizer is alcohol. Different types of alcohol are used and absorbing these through your skin are of concern to me.
Ingredients in Lysol such as Mipa Borate, Ammonium Hydroxide, and Ethanolamine, have been linked to developmental and reproductively toxicity, respiratory stress and asthma, allergies, skin sensitivity and more.
I have been making my own hand sanitizer since last year's flu season, this year I started making my own foamy soap and I really like making my own cleaners. These all contain all natural ingredients, that are effective. When it comes to protecting my family from pathogens, my motto is "first do no harm." This is a baby step approach for me. I try really hard not to get overwhelmed with all the harm in this world. I know that I am living for eternity. I want to teach my children to set their affections on things above, however, while we live on this earth I also want to feel healthy.
If you are not a do it yourself kind of family, dōTERRA has some great products already made with high quality ingredients OR take advantage of Donna's Good Health Team. We will come to your home with all the supplies and help you host a make-and-take class.
There are tons of other ways to address immunity besides hand sanitizer, proper hand washing and cleaning surfaces. The list is so long I don't know where to begin: When is the last time you had your vitamin D levels checked, are you taking supplements, are you eating fermented foods, taking probiotics, making bone broth soup, eating garlic, exercising? I am still learning but the information out there is endless. Stop by my donnasgoodhealth facebook page and drop me a note about what natural health solutions you are doing to build your immunity.
