PUMPKIN PATCH
We are building a pumpkin patch and we need your help! If you want to participate please have your kids decorate (not carve) any type of pumpkin (big or small) and place it on the white rocks on your way into school. Don't forget to put your name and grade on the bottom as there will be a prize for best pumpkin. The winner will be announced at the end of October alongside our trunk or treat class winners!
Weekly Update
Hello Foster's Finest,
It has been a busy week of school here at Foster. We have just about completed our data meetings, reviewing our current school data from beginning of the year assessments. As I mentioned in a prior letter, we are implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS). Dedicated blocks of instruction during Mathematics and English Language Arts classes will be used to instruct students in small groups to accelerate students’ learning based on the data analysis. This allows us to tailor the instruction to individual student needs, be it remediation or enrichment. It will be all hands on deck during this block of time while we break into small groups led by Interventionists, Reading Teachers, Math Coaches and Classroom Teachers.
This is not a special education initiative, it is considered a general education initiative. One of my colleagues said, "It is giving every child what- they- need time." The best part about this time is that no new material is being introduced to students, so they do not miss direct instruction in these content areas. It is exciting to see this work beginning in all of our classrooms. More information can be found here about MTSS.
The final Town Hall meeting on the Building Project is going to be held at 10:00 AM tomorrow. We will also have tours of Foster tomorrow afternoon from 1-3 PM. Please encourage anyone who is interested to attend, especially friends in town who live in the other school zones not districted to Foster.
It was exciting to finally meet Farmer Jon, who has been working with students in the garden this week. I love to see the connection that is created between an expert and the students as we learn about gardening and harvesting. I hear there is garlic bread coming our way soon along with some other tasty things from our garden.
Thank you always for your support of our school.
Mr. Scheufele

Foster Building Update
This link (Building Project Information) will bring you to the information sheets, the dates of the upcoming Open House sessions, and the Foster Tours. Please share this information with family and friends who reside in Hingham. This is a great opportunity for the public to learn more about the project and provide them with the information needed to make informed decisions.
Preschool Screenings
Under federal and state special education regulations, Hingham Public Schools (HPS) has a responsibility to locate, identify, refer, evaluate and, if eligible, provide a free, appropriate, public education to students with disabilities who reside in the town of Hingham. For this purpose, we offer screenings twice per year, in November and February. Our first screening of the 2022-2023 school year will take place on Thursday, November 3rd at East Elementary School. If you would like your child screened, please call Darcy Greene, Administrative Assistant at 781-741-1570, x4967 or email dgreene@hinghamschools.org. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Early Childhood Coordinator Elizabeth Costanza, at ecostanza@hinghamschools.org.
