KCS GT Update

December 2020 Volume 7

Thank YOU!

As we wrap up the first part of our school year, we want to take a moment to thank all of you. We know that your influence and guidance has allowed your child the opportunity to learn and grow during this ever-changing period in their lives.

This school year has been unlike any other, but your children have shown us daily what resilience looks like. They have been a constant reminder of why our job is important. As GT Coaches, we feel blessed to have the opportunity to advocate for your children to support them in reaching their potential.

Have a safe and healthy break. We look forward to seeing your child in January.

Gratitude at the Holidays

Innovation Leads to Divergent Thinking

We are used to thinking convergently. Using logic, coming up with well-established answers, and thinking critically. But, what about the dreamers, the inventors, the innovators? What about those that think divergently?

"Divergent thinking helps us generate many new ideas, imagine, be original, ask questions to spot problems, look for patterns, make unexpected connections, imagine, and see things from a variety of perspectives.

Divergent thinking is ideational or visionary in nature. It involves rigorous gymnastics of the mind that lead to unexpected solutions. Divergent thinking spurs our thoughts beyond what exists, opening the door of thought to consider new possibilities."

Maybe, now is the time to think divergently. Take a look at, Why You Need to Practice Divergent Thinking to discover ways to get better at divergent thinking.

Get Outdoors - friluftsliv

"There is no bad weather, just bad clothing" is the mantra behind the Norwegian concept of filuftsliv. Which is the idea of open-air living, regardless of the weather. This article, written by Stacey Benzing, explains why it is important to keep spending time outdoors even in the cold weather. Benzing reports, "The first part of managing stress and building resiliency in these trying times is changing how you view things. You are in control. Instead of saying you dread winter, shift the dialogue to, 'I'm looking forward to winter'." Read this article to learn more about friluftsliv.
