Mary Meredith K-12 Newsletter
February 2024
From the Principal
Welcome to February Mustangs! February is a month of celebrations. It’s the month we celebrate Black History, Arizona becoming a State, Valentine’s Day, Rodeo Days and Leap Year this year. We are mid-way through the 3rd quarter. We will be holding Parent Teacher Conferences on February 8th and 9th; you will be receiving invites from your students teacher. No matter what you celebrate this month, find time and reason to celebrate you!
"Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness lives within each of us." —Wilma Rudolph

Mustang's Spotlight:
Hello, my name is Maria Lignos. This is my 5th year working with students who have exceptional needs. Prior to coming to Mary Meredith I was a long term substitute teacher at Catalina Foothills High School in their special education inclusion program.
I am a graduate of the University of Arizona and am currently enrolled at Pima Community College in the post degree Mild-Moderate Disabilities Certification Program.
I was a military wife for over 20 years. This allowed my family to live in many different places and experience different cultures. My favorite assignment was when we were stationed in Turkey.
I have 3 sons and a 4-year-old granddaughter who calls me YiaYia. She is an utter joy.
I enjoy walking, reading, cooking, thrifting, gardening, and just hanging out with my husband.
I thank all the staff who have shown me patience as I get to know the routine and our wonderful students. The warm welcome I have received is truly appreciated.
Mustang's Pride: Counseling Corner
Talk It Out is an initiative out of the College of Education Counseling Program that was created in partnership with the Tucson Unified School District Family Resource Centers. This partnership began from the clearly identified need to provide mental health services to students and families in the community who might otherwise encounter significant barriers to access.
The program provides free mental health counseling services to TUSD students, families, teachers, and staff using a practicum training model. Under supervision, master’s level counselors-in-training provide individual, family and group counseling free of charge (no insurance required) to enrolled TUSD students and families in addition to currently employed teachers and staff members. To our knowledge, no other program or organization provides a similar service in the greater Tucson area. Please visit the TUSD website and click on the Talk it Out referral link, talk to a TUSD school counselor, or visit one of the Family Resource Centers to begin the referral process. Talk it Out clients may be struggling socially, emotionally, or academically and do not need to have a specific mental health disorder to qualify.
For more information, please contact Ms. Valerio, our school counselor, at 520-232-8266 or by email.
