Republican Political Party
Maren Bryan
the "grand old party"
The republican party, also known as the "grand old party", was founded in 1854 by Hannibal Hamlin. The party was originally created with the core belief of the abolition of slavery and creating equal rights for all races in America after the civil war. The party became increasingly popular throughout the American Revolution. Many celebrities including Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan are republicans.
The Platform & Views
The republican party has a platform based on free enterprise & capitalism, a strong military, and labor union restrictions. The party has a strong foundation involving traditional values and beliefs. For example, they do not support gay marriage or abortions. However, the party is split over immigration issues.

Today's Major Issue
The republican party has shown a strong opinion on immigration since Trump's election. The party has been fighting for a wall to be built on the US border with Mexico to prevent illegal immigration. As a whole, the party feels that major action needs to be taken towards preventing illegal immigration and deporting those already here. The issue has revolved around putting their plan of building a wall into action due to funding issues. A solution is yet to be made on where the money for the wall will come from in the government's budget.
Business Funders
Political parties need to have funders in order to have money for campaigns. Political campaigns are crucial in getting a candidate elected as they call attention to their party. Having funders allows for larger campaigns that spread a political parties perspective to americans. Pepsi, Wendys, and Angel Soft are crucial funders to the republican party.
