From the Principal's Desk...
I urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received
Dear Parents and Guardians,
There are times when I am able to stop and reflect upon the extraordinary realities that are present in the ordinary. If the door to the kindergarten is open as I lead prayer at the beginning and end of each day, I am moved by the collective voice of these children in prayer. I believe that God listens to their prayers, and my faith is enlivened. It is a simple and ordinary situation that is made holy.
I have been reading the essays of our 8th grade students who have applied for consideration for our Leo and Laura Duwel Memorial Scholarship trust fund which provides financial assistance to our graduates who are continuing their Catholic education in high school. In their writings, I am able to see more clearly the importance and impact of their time at St. John the Baptist School. They have grown in faith, friendship and a hope for their future.
There are certain students who always smile and say goodbye to me at dismissal. No matter what kind of day I’ve had or perhaps even what kind of day they’ve had, they share this simple kindness with me. I am grateful and blessed by their gentleness.
This week the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord on Thursday and formally this Sunday. In the second reading (Eph. 4:1-13), St. Paul reminds us of this. “Brothers and sisters, I, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.”
We have been called to look for, see and understand the deeper realities which are all around us. We are called to make these simple gifts of gentleness, patience, forbearance and love seen and felt in our world. The humble prayers of kindergartners, the reflections of 8th graders, the smiling goodbye of small of a child are ways in which the Spirit of the Lord is made manifest. May we all learn from these ordinary realities, and in so doing live in a manner worthy of the call we have received.
Peace,
Dan Minelli
