The Four Forces of Flight
By Emily Hillman
Force 1 Lift
1. Lift is the force that directly opposes the weight of an airplane and holds the airplane in the air.
2. Lift is generated by every part of the airplane, but most of the lift on a normal airlineris generated by the wings.
Force 2 Thrust
1.Thrust is the force which moves an aircraft through the air.
2.Thrust is used to over come the drag of an airplane, and to over come the weight of a rocket.
Force 3 Drag
1.Drag is the aerodynamic force that opposes an aircrafts motion through the air.
2.Drag is generated by every part of the airplane even the engines.
Force 4 Weight
1.For instance , as a plane climbs, its weight is equal to a portion of lift force and a portion of the thrust force.
2.In this situation, the opposite forces of flight are no longer equal to one another.
