Dear RC Families,
We are amazed and so proud of how our incredible community has come together, once again to support the start of hybrid. It has been absolutely incredible to see our students IN school!
Our staff has worked so hard to prepare for your children and our first couple weeks are going really well! Such JOY can be felt throughout the school! We have missed your students!!
We were honored and pleasantly surprised to host a filming crew from the District last Thursday to document and celebrate our first day back with grades 3-5. It was exciting to share the happiness that we all have about this positive change!
Also, a big thank you goes to our families who are remaining in CDL instruction in the afternoons. Because of your choice, we were able to keep most of our classrooms intact with the same teacher. Much of the fanfare at the district level involved welcoming students back in our buildings, which is a huge step, and we’d like to specifically acknowledge all of our CDL families who have made that possible. Please know that we are so grateful to all of you for that decision you made, and that we celebrate all of you every day.
We are looking forward to the fall, when all students K-12 will be welcomed back to school.
Thank you for partnering with us to make our school the very best it can be! Rock Creek Elementary is a wonderful place!
IMPORTANT IN PERSON INSTRUCTION NEWS
**Important Misc. Going Home information**
Going home plans need to be set and consistent. This means the way your student gets home should NOT be changed. All 2 hours and 15 minutes will be devoted to instruction; thus teachers will have no time to check emails or make phone calls to see if changes have been made.
NO EARLY PICK-UPS, barring a true emergency. We will need every minute of instructional time.
Bus Riders: Students must ride THEIR assigned bus. Students will not be allowed on a bus that is not connected to their home address. If you haven’t been assigned a bus, you cannot take another one. Transportation worked hard to meet safety protocols and are relying on addresses that match assigned buses and cannot go over a certain capacity. Please contact Transportation if you have a concern.

PLAYGROUND & FIELDS CLOSED TO PUBLIC 8:00 AM -4:00 PM
The District is keeping all school playgrounds and fields closed to the public during teacher work hours 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday thru Friday beginning April 5, 2021.
Just a Friendly Reminder: Dogs are not allowed on school grounds.
BIMAXNOW TEST INFORMATION
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) supports COVID-19 testing in public and private K-12 schools in Oregon for students and staff who display symptoms of COVID-19. The Beaverton School District has registered to have Abbott BinaxNOW rapid antigen testing available for students and staff who develop primary symptoms of COVID-19 at school. Primary symptoms of Covid-19 include:
New or different than usual shortness of breath
New or different than usual coughing
Fever of 100.4 or higher
New loss of taste or smell.
The Abbott BinaxNOW test will only be administered to students who have consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian on file. The student must be capable and willing to perform a nasal swab test independently. The parent(s) or guardian can decline testing and opt to test their child with a healthcare provider. If there is any doubt as to whether a specimen may be safely self-collected by an individual, they should be referred to their healthcare provider for COVID-19 testing. Positive test results will be shared with the Local Public Health Authority to assist in contact tracing.
If you would like your child to participate in this testing program, please complete and return the consent form to the school office. CAFETERIA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We have a volunteer opportunity for Rock Creek volunteers that have already been background approved. Our cafeteria needs 2 to 3 committed volunteers every day to help bag fruits, vegetables, entrée items and helping assemble the bags that will go home.
Volunteer hours would be between 8:30 and 10:30 am. Volunteers can commit to one day, two days etc. If you have a food handling license even better (but not required).

OREGON HEALTH EDUCATION STANDARDS
Oregon Health Education Standards
The Great Body Shop, published by The Children’s Health Market, will be used to teach the Oregon Health Education Standards. It offers skills-based instruction that addresses physical, social, emotional, and mental health. Human Sexuality Education instruction is age appropriate, medically accurate, and relevant for all students.
Erin’s Law (Sexual Abuse Prevention)
An important component of our curriculum is to help children protect their bodies, get support when abuse has occurred, and report to a trusted adult. In accordance with Erin’s Law, we are educating children about sexual abuse and promoting awareness within our communities. The Oregon Department of Education has required all Oregon schools to comply with Erin’s Law. The Erin’s Law lessons address personal safety, touching safety, and assertiveness.
Previewing Materials/Opting Out
The process for previewing materials and opting out of instruction will be slightly different due to the pandemic. Your child’s teacher will be sending communication home prior to instruction in human sexuality and sexual abuse prevention to address this.

THE PTC NEEDS YOU
The PTC is looking for new members to join our Board of Directors and Committees for the 2021-2022 School year. Vacant positions include:
1st Vice President
The 1st Vice President maintains the PTC calendar and secures facility use for PTC meetings and events. Assists the Rocket Run Committee and President to perform the duties of President in their absence.
All Rock Creek Parents are automatically members of the Parent Teacher Club (PTC). The PTC is a great way to learn about the exciting things happening at Rock Creek. There are tons of ways to get involved! Connect with the PTC at our meetings, on Facebook, via text message (text: @rcptcto 81010 to join) and through our website. Also, we just joined Instagram - follow us at @RockCreekPTC!
Congrats to the COVID Crossouts, Ethan, Sid, Dharya, and Genna. They got to third place at virtual Regionals this past weekend. It was extremely tough with multiple amazing teams. OBOB members looks for info on the icepop party coming in May.

In honor of National Library week we are having a contest going on all month. When you come to any of our check out times, we will take your guess on how many books we have in our library. Whoever has the closest guess in each grade level will receive a free book. Good luck hope to see you soon.

WHAT TO DO IF STUDENTS ARE HAVING A TECHNOLOGY ISSUE

If you are having issues with a BSD device please contact our Student Help Desk, not the school office. The student help desk has trained technicians that can problem solve issues and order student devices, the school office has moms that have to ask their kids how to use their smart phones. :)
If you are having a technical difficulties with apps, logins or devices, please check out the technology support page for help.
4th & 5th GRADE STUDENT SURVEY
Each year the District surveys students, staff, and parents to gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessment of progress on the District's Strategic Plan.
The student survey takes about 20 minutes during the regular school day. The data gathered from the survey is anonymous; your child will not put his/her name or other identifying information on the survey. Like other surveys, results will be presented only about groups. No individual data will be reported.
The surveys will be given between March 30 - June 4.
Your child may skip questions or stop filling out the survey at any time. Refusing to participate or withdrawing from the survey does not affect your child's grades or class standing in any way. If you or your child does not want to participate, your child can read or do some other activity while his or her classmates complete the survey.
After reviewing the survey, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify the Rock Creek office at 503-356-2452.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS
SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATE FORUM
The Communications & Community Involvement Department will host a School Board Candidate Forum on Wednesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. The School Board election is in May.
The forum will be conducted via Zoom. Community members can submit questions in advance via the form. A moderator will pose the questions to the candidates during the forum. The meeting will be recorded and posted to the District's YouTube and Facebook pages shortly after its completion.

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
Kids are everywhere. Drive like it.
As students return to schools for in-person learning this month, arrival and departure times may be different than you are used to. While traffic and activities around Beaverton schools may look different, one thing is for sure – kids are out and about in our community. Some kids may be returning to school buildings while others will be continuing to learn remotely and taking breaks outside during the day. Safety is everyone’s responsibility! Kids are everywhere. #DriveLikeIt.
Driving Safety Tips
Our community needs everyone to drive safely, be alert, and follow traffic laws, especially when observing students walking, biking, skateboarding, and scootering. Let’s work together to keep our students safe!
· Stop for school busses when red lights flash. Both directions of traffic must stop.
· Watch your speed. 20 mph is the school zone speed limit.
· Be ready to stop at all times. Kids may dart into the street without checking for traffic.
· Stop for people at intersections and when asked by the crossing guard. Check your blind spots before turning and behind your vehicle before reversing.
· Drive for conditions – This time of year is often rainy and foggy limiting visibility for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians so keep those headlights on to help others see you.
Walking and Rolling is Good for the Earth!
