Free Rapid Covid-19 Tests
In CFISD, we are committed to doing all that we can to keep staff and students healthy and safe. With this goal in mind, we are pleased to share that we will be taking part in a statewide program (through the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Texas Education Agency) offering free rapid COVID-19 tests for use in school districts. This program will allow CFISD to test individuals and reduce the risk of spread to our school community.
What COVID-19 tests are used in this program?
This program uses BinaxNOW tests, which provide results in 15 minutes and are administered using a nasal swab in the front area of the nostril. These tests have been shown to be highly accurate, with accuracy rates of 97-98% for symptomatic individuals.
Who can be tested?
All CFISD students and staff are eligible for testing if they exhibit COVID-19 symptoms which are unusual for them, also known as being symptomatic. A CFISD student ID or employee badge must be presented at the testing site for verification purposes. Consent for testing is required, and parents/legal guardians must consent for students under the age of 18.
This test is not designed for asymptomatic individuals who have been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive.
Where and when will the tests be given?
Monday – Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Old Windfern High School, 12630 Windfern Rd., Houston, TX 77064
Parking is available on the Bobcat Rd. side of the building. Please follow parking signs and remain in your vehicle.
Testing for CFISD staff is also available through our partner AFC Urgent Care on Barker Cypress.
How much does the test cost?
The test is free.
How do I sign up to be tested?
Staff:
· No appointment is needed
· CFISD Employee ID required
· Must arrive at testing site no later than 30 minutes prior to closing
Students:
· Visit http://www.cfisd.net/covid19 for appointment scheduling, required information and consent forms
How will the information from the tests be used?
Test results will be provided to parents/staff before departing the testing site. The results will also be shared with the district and local health department to allow for public health reporting and contact tracing and to determine the stay-at-home period for individuals who test positive. Additionally, the total number of positive tests per school will be shared with the Texas Department of State Health Services, as is required by law.
What happens after I receive my test results?
If you test positive, this means you have COVID-19 antigens in your system. The district will provide you with a return to work/school date and information on isolating from others. It is also recommended you contact your healthcare provider.
The amount of traceable COVID-19 can vary in a person's body, so If you test negative and are symptomatic, you will be advised to contact your healthcare provider for an alternative diagnosis before returning to work/school.
If you have any testing site questions or need additional information, please contact the CFISD Office of Emergency Management at 281-897-6448 or EmergencyManagement@cfisd.net.

Release of Information Forms
If you are needing Behavior Rating Scales completed or are wanting the school to communicate with an outside entity, private tutor, doctor etc. , you will need to complete a Release of Information Form for this school year. You can request this form through the counseling office. When asking teachers to complete Behavior Rating Scales, you will need to give one week’s notice to allow teachers ample time to complete the forms. These forms will be faxed directly to the doctor’s office and you will be notified once this is completed.
Credit By Exam
Although the application window has closed to be able to skip a grade for the current 20-21 school year, there are 2 opportunities available during the year to test to skip for the 21-22 school year. Please see the district website for testing dates and application deadlines..
