Message from Dr. Reilly

Thank you for attending Farney Festivities, it was such an amazing night. We were determined to make magic happen, and based on all of the feedback I would say it was a success! Thank you to our crew of volunteer dads and staff who spent hours setting up and making decor. I appreciate all of our staff for showing up and spreading holiday cheer! I was overwhelmed several times with a heart full of gratitude to live and work in such a wonderful school community. People willingly shared their personal decorations so we could make the drive look beautiful. A special thank you to Richard Stockton, general manager, ACE Hardware/M&D Supply on Louetta for donating many strands of lights to line our driveway. I saw hundreds of SMILES and enjoyed seeing all of our kiddos, and families. Grandparents and fur babies enjoyed the night too. Thank you to our music teacher, Ms. Bond, for teaching our 4th graders a song to play on the handbells as they sang merrily along! I hope all of our Farney families have a wonderful holiday break! We look forward to seeing our students on January 4th.

Free Rapid Covid-19 Tests

In CFISD, we are committed to doing all that we can to keep staff and students healthy and safe. With this goal in mind, we are pleased to share that we will be taking part in a statewide program (through the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Texas Education Agency) offering free rapid COVID-19 tests for use in school districts. This program will allow CFISD to test individuals and reduce the risk of spread to our school community.

What COVID-19 tests are used in this program?

This program uses BinaxNOW tests, which provide results in 15 minutes and are administered using a nasal swab in the front area of the nostril. These tests have been shown to be highly accurate, with accuracy rates of 97-98% for symptomatic individuals.

Who can be tested?

All CFISD students and staff are eligible for testing if they exhibit COVID-19 symptoms which are unusual for them, also known as being symptomatic. A CFISD student ID or employee badge must be presented at the testing site for verification purposes. Consent for testing is required, and parents/legal guardians must consent for students under the age of 18.

This test is not designed for asymptomatic individuals who have been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive.

Where and when will the tests be given?

Monday – Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Old Windfern High School, 12630 Windfern Rd., Houston, TX 77064

Parking is available on the Bobcat Rd. side of the building. Please follow parking signs and remain in your vehicle.

Testing for CFISD staff is also available through our partner AFC Urgent Care on Barker Cypress.

How much does the test cost?

The test is free.

How do I sign up to be tested?

Staff:

· No appointment is needed

· CFISD Employee ID required

· Must arrive at testing site no later than 30 minutes prior to closing

Students:

· Visit http://www.cfisd.net/covid19 for appointment scheduling, required information and consent forms

How will the information from the tests be used?

Test results will be provided to parents/staff before departing the testing site. The results will also be shared with the district and local health department to allow for public health reporting and contact tracing and to determine the stay-at-home period for individuals who test positive. Additionally, the total number of positive tests per school will be shared with the Texas Department of State Health Services, as is required by law.

What happens after I receive my test results?

If you test positive, this means you have COVID-19 antigens in your system. The district will provide you with a return to work/school date and information on isolating from others. It is also recommended you contact your healthcare provider.

The amount of traceable COVID-19 can vary in a person's body, so If you test negative and are symptomatic, you will be advised to contact your healthcare provider for an alternative diagnosis before returning to work/school.

If you have any testing site questions or need additional information, please contact the CFISD Office of Emergency Management at 281-897-6448 or EmergencyManagement@cfisd.net.

Release of Information Forms

If you are needing Behavior Rating Scales completed or are wanting the school to communicate with an outside entity, private tutor, doctor etc. , you will need to complete a Release of Information Form for this school year. You can request this form through the counseling office. When asking teachers to complete Behavior Rating Scales, you will need to give one week’s notice to allow teachers ample time to complete the forms. These forms will be faxed directly to the doctor’s office and you will be notified once this is completed.

Credit By Exam

Although the application window has closed to be able to skip a grade for the current 20-21 school year, there are 2 opportunities available during the year to test to skip for the 21-22 school year. Please see the district website for testing dates and application deadlines..

No Place For Hate

We enjoyed learning about Families this week, our own and others’. Understanding the similarities and differences plays an important role in children’s identity development and their ability to observe and appreciate diversity.

CFISD CODE OF CONDUCT AND STUDENT HANDBOOK FEEDBACK OPPORTUNITY

Each year the district asks for input from our staff, students, and community members regarding our Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook. After reviewing the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook (available on the CFISD website), please feel free to provide feedback by filling out the attached feedback forms (attached as PDFs at the bottom of this newsletter). These feedback forms are also available online on both the district and campus websites. The deadline for submission to the Office of Student Services is Friday, December 18, 2020.

NOTE:

To further assist efforts in gathering valuable feedback, in addition to the hard copy versions of the feedback form, the district has established an online form that stakeholders can use to submit their responses. The links for those online forms are listed below and will also be posted to the district and campus websites.
