Twin Peaks Middle School
Weekly RAM Newsletter
A Brief Note from Dr. Burke
Dear Ram families,
The fourth quarter is officially underway and third quarter report cards will go home with students this Wednesday. This issue of our weekly newsletter includes some great pictures of our Club Live Garden along with important information about our upcoming Read-a-thon sponsored by the Twin Peaks Foundation. We are in need of prizes for the students, so please read below for details on how you can help. CAASPP testing will continue this week in Language Arts classes. We appreciate you encouraging your students to get plenty of rest and to try their best.
I am pleased to share that this week, Twin Peaks was selected as a Poway Unified model school for Specialized Academic Instruction. We are one of three schools, and the only middle school to be selected. This honor is a direct result of the work we have done to create an inclusive school culture. Moving into next year, we will continue our learning and our commitment to seeing every child as a general education student first. We look forward to sharing our success stories with you as we continue our journey. In the event you missed it, please see the complete press release below.
That's it for now. We look forward to seeing all our students tomorrow, and remember, it's a 5/1/3 day.
Sincerely,
Dr. Burke
How Does Your Garden Grow?
The Garden Project at TPMS is complete! This project came about as a result of our Club Live students who envisioned building a garden that would grow over 52 fruit and vegetable plants that would be available to our students. Club Live's mission is to encourage students to make healthy life choices and the new garden is just one way they are trying to bring awareness to being physically healthy. These 14 students spent over 80 hours making their dream a reality. We encourage everyone to come take a look at their masterpiece.

Anti-Tobacco Rally
TMPS and PHS Club Live groups are combining forces to bring a special anti-tobacco rally on Wednesday during both lunches. This rally will focus on anti-tobacco education, student interaction, fun activities/games and opportunities to win some pretty cool prizes. We hope all our students will take advantage of this unique event.
READ-A-THON Coming in May - Looking for Prize Donations
The Twin Peaks Foundation is holding the 3rd Annual READ-A-THON fundraiser on May 2nd and we need your help to make this a great event for the students. During their RAM time on Thursday, May 2nd, all students will spend their entire RAM time reading independently. Keep your eyes open for an upcoming email to register and donate toward our goal of $20,000 for additional campus projects.
We need your help with prizes. If you have anything that could be donated or gift cards we could use as prizes for the kids, that would be greatly appreciated. If you have an item, please reach out to Judith McAulay at jmcaulay@yahoo.com.
Thank you for your support and showing your RAM Pride!

ADL Walk Against Hate
This year, Twin Peaks has partnered with the Anti-Defamation League in San Diego to work towards becoming a school where hate is not tolerated. The No Place For Hate committee has held a school-wide signing of the Resolution of Respect and have also discussed with their peers, “Slurs, Offensive Jokes, and how to address them”, in their first activity. The committee is currently working on the second activity addressing culture and identity.
In San Diego, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) are celebrating their 2nd annual Walk Against Hate which brings the entire community together to promote diversity. Thousands of students, parents, business leaders and community members will walk with one another to highlight the values of respect and inclusion. We would love to show our RAM P.R.I.D.E. by joining other San Diego schools and the ADL on their Walk Against Hate.
