MACBETH ACT 5 SCENE 1
1948 Orson Welles Vs. 2010 Rupert Goold
The Play and the Films
I think the 2010 version was more accurate to the book because even though the setting was in a more modern day it was more accurate then the 1948 version, because of the ending of the scene in the 1948 version when Macbeth shows up. I liked the 1948 version a little bit more because of when Macbeth showed up because that seemed interesting. It showed how even more Lady Macbeth was afraid of Macbeth.
Lighting
In each version of the scene the lighting was focused on Lady Macbeth from the moment she walks in and the moment she walks out. This shows that in both versions the focus was meant to be on Lady Macbeth
Washing of the Hands
In the 1948 version Lady Macbeth is pretending or thinking that she is washing her hands, because of all the bad things she's done but she is not. In the 2010 version she is literally washing her hands. This is significant, because this shows that in the 1948 version that something she did was wrong because she was thinking she was washing her hands but wasn't in reality. in the 2010 version she is literally washing her hands and could just be washing her hands and seem a little less crazy.
Unexpected Apearence
In the 1948 version the end of this scene before Lady Macbeth goes to bed Macbeth shows up and a few seconds she notices who it is she sees. Then Lady Macbeth runs away frightened of what she sees. In the 2010 version she just goes off to bed at the end of the scene
