The FTI 1-1-1 Commitment

I just wanted to touch base to see how you thought you might incorporate what was learned in the FTI into your teaching or research. Don't wait until the last minute. Remember, you have to complete the 1-1-1 by the end of the Spring 2016 Semester and the end of the semester gets VERY busy. Know that I am available to work with you on your implementation or to answer any questions you may have.

When you signed up for the FTI, you agreed to participate in the 1-1-1 program which states you will employ

The purpose of the 1-1-1 Commitment is to encourage you to explore and implement new instructional technologies and strategies and to analyze the impact on student learning.

Since the 2015 FTI revolves around modifying an existing module/lecture we encourage you to expand upon this by modifying multiple lectures or even an entire class. Your 1-1-1 end-product can then address

  • the challenge you had in the original course,
  • the changes you made to solve the challenges,
  • any technology tools you used, and
  • your outcomes.

This end-product might take the form of a scholarly paper, a comprehensive blog post, a FTI Faculty Showcase, a departmental presentation, etc. You are not limited to the formats above and may work with your Instructional Technologist to implement other reporting methods.

Preparing Your Findings

Whatever you decide to do you should consider some key questions. So, as you are preparing to report or presentation on your findings please include the following:

  • Name and description of course.

  • Number of students participating in the project (if applicable).

  • Description of the technology strategy that you chose to implement.

  • Description of the decision making process:

    • What challenges did you experience in your course prior to attending the FTI?

    • What strategy(s) did you employ in your course to overcome the challenge(s)?

    • Why did you choose to use the tool and/or strategy?

    • How did it impact student learning / engagement / interactions / etc.?

    • … others as applicable

  • Discuss how you implemented the tool and/or strategy.

  • List of the advantages and disadvantages of the tool and/or strategy.

  • Summary of the results:

    • Quantitative (if applicable)

    • Qualitative (if applicable)

    • Student outcomes

    • Instructor outcomes

    • … others as applicable

  • What advice would you provide to faculty who want to use the tool and/or strategy in their course or research?
