THE HATTER UPDATE

THE COMMUNICATION FORUM FOR HHHS FAMILIES

BACK TO THE DAILY ROUTINE

We are now approaching our third week of school and students and teachers are starting to gain a clear understanding of the daily routine - adjusting to classes, the new bell schedule, changes to lunches, etc. While there is still work to do, we are happy with how staff and students are responding.

FALL 2021 BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

Wednesday, Sep. 22nd, 6:30-8:30pm

899 Horsham Road

Horsham, PA

The high school will be hosting an in-person Back to School Night for this semester. However, to address health and safety needs and decrease the amount of traffic in the building, we will be splitting the night into two sessions by alphabet. Please view the attached document which explains the schedule for the evening. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD(REN) PROVIDES YOU WITH THEIR CLASS SCHEDULE. The high school administrative team will be sending a welcome video to all families on Wednesday morning.

MORNING DROP-OFF ... WE KNOW! WE HEAR YOU! WE ARE WORKING ON IT!

We recognize that morning drop-off is hectic. The design of our building and the local roads surrounding us are not designed for 200+ student drivers, 200+ faculty/staff drivers, 200+ parents dropping off, and 25 buses all coming to the same location within a 20-minute window. We know you are frustrated, so are we. Things have gotten a little better each day. But to some that change isn't noticeable. However, it is critical that you help us maintain a safe and orderly environment, where you can.

If you are dropping off in the morning, please pull up and let students out of the car and keep going. Please don't let students out of the car at the crosswalk on Hatters Way, it slows traffic. Also, beginning on Monday, we will not be allowing traffic to make a left turn back on to Hatters Way (going towards Simmons) after drop-off - we have asked the same of our school buses.

The goal every morning is to ensure that students and parents are able to enter and exit campus safely. Thanks for caring about the safety and security of students and adults both entering and exiting campus. It is our hope that tweaks in the morning arrival process will help remedy some of the issues we are experienced during the first week of school.

CLASS MEETINGS

The high school administrative team will be conducting grade-level meetings with every graduating class next week. We will meet with 9th and 10th graders over split sessions on Tuesday, September 21st, and with 11th and 12th graders on Wednesday, September 22nd.

HOW TO APPROPRIATELY USE THE HATS PERIOD/PORTAL

We have provided students with the expectations associated with the HATS period, as well as the opportunities that exist to meet with teachers, attend club/activity meetings, work independently, or just relax. Here is the video that was shared with students on how to access and navigate the HATS portal (also called FlexTime Manager).

CLUB & ACTIVITY RUSH WEEK

We will be providing multiple opportunities over multiple days for students to get a sense of the clubs and activities that we offer here at the high school. We will run a Club/Activity Rush Week next week. During their lunches, students will have a chance to view clubs that may be of interest to them. The Rush Week events will be held outdoors, in the front of the building, during lunches.

Day 1 (Monday, 9/27) - Community Service & Service Learning

Day 2 (Wednesday, 9/29) - Student Affinity Groups

Day 3 (Friday, 10/1) - Academic/Interest Groups

MASKING

Hatboro-Horsham School District's Health & Safety protocols require that students are masked. Therefore, it is critical that students are also masked appropriately. Please have conversations with your high school-age child(ren) about wearing their mask over their nose. This includes wearing masks while on district transportation.
