Upcoming Events
Month of the Military Child- April is the Month of the Military Child! We look forward to celebrating this special month at Sherwood School! Please be on the lookout for an informational packet being sent home later this month, along with considering to purchase a Purple Up shirt! All t-shirt orders are due by March 13th. Thanks!
Spring Conferences
In order to ensure that students are also a part of the reflection and goal setting process, the third grade students will be joining us for our conference time. For those that may not be able to attend due to spring break plans, students will be creating video presentations that they can share with you at a time in which it is convenient for your family. Thank you for your support & collaboration!
English Language Arts
ELA
We look forward to kicking off our next reading unit, devoted toward using informational texts with various structures and features that aid readers’ comprehension. Students will be exposed to higher-level, content-based vocabulary. They’ll also use illustrations and words in a text as evidence to answer research questions about nature. Through our mentor text, students will also learn about the steps in a scientific process.
This week we’ll also focus on the use of homophones in our spelling unit and using the correct word in context.
Writing
Math
We look forward to kicking off our next unit, devoted toward geometry! Students will enjoy hands-on learning as they are asked to form polygons out of toothpicks. They'll explore the attributes of a progression of polygons: rectangles and rhombuses, pentagons, hexagons, and heptagons through dodecagons. They will also read descriptions of shapes and build examples on geoboards; applying their understanding of polygons’ attributes. They will also collect and formulate data, based on geometric terms. Be on the lookout for the Unit #6 Family Overview coming home on Tuesday! This is a wonderful unit, rich with new concepts and vocabulary!
Opportunity Knocks
Students who complete THREE opportunity knocks activities by Friday, will have the chance to enter my class prize bin! If your child is looking for something fun to do this weekend, these just may be the answer you're looking for!
