Dear Families,
First of all, we would like to thank those who attended Curriculum Night!!! It is always a pleasure to support you and your children through their learning process and it was fun sharing with you the way we use the interest Areas to intentionally teach and help children progress in the different areas of their development.
Establishing rules and routines it is not an easy task! It requires a lot of effort and reinforcement and that is what we have been up to this week in order to maintain safety and a sense of grounding to have a successful year.
Preschoolers find comfort and security in the repetition of routines. Having a routine that the children follow helps them feel that they have control over their environment and helps them anticipate events.
This is an essential part of our curriculum, which is the reason we deliver it from the very beginning. Our rules denote a positive language (be safe, be nice, etc.) and we encourage you to try it at home as well! For more information and tips, check out the following article on positive guidance.
We had very engaging discussions about our individuality as well as studying human diversity and shared characteristics. We understand that each of us is unique in our own way.
This week, we read the following books: Cool Dog, School Dog, Llama Llama Misses Mama and Llama Llama Shares
Students are enjoying the 'All About Me' unit though the 'Me in a Bag' activity . They also worked on creating a small replica of themselves in our art center. They are starting to gain familiarity with their friend's names and we are using this to introduce them to letters and letter sounds.

Nursery Rhyme- Marry had a Little Lamb
Difference Between Lamb and Sheep. This is a concept the children will gain quickly. While singing or reading Mary Had a Little Lamb, we explained that Mary's lamb was little because it was a baby sheep. As the baby lamb grows, it is called a sheep.

Show and Tell "Me in a Bag"
EXTENSION: After show and tell, most kids wanted to play with the items they brought in. We had a "display table" on show and tell day where the children placed their items.

Literacy- Working on our names
One of the best places to start when it comes to teaching young children how to read/write is to begin with their name. Young children are highly interested in their own name. It has meaning and value to them – it is personal…

It's Okay to Be Different
The "All ABout Me" theme helps children to realize that every person is unique and special; every child's thoughts and ideas are important and no one person is more or less important than another!
