Robert H. Goddard
Robert Goddard was the designer of the first successful liquid-fuel rocket. In 1923, he started to design rockets powered by liquid oxygen. His first successful rocket flight was made in 1926 when a 4-foot rocket flew for 2 seconds and reached an altitude of 40 feet. In 1931, Goddard introduced the automatic launch sequential system and, in 1932, gyroscopic steering.
