Thornhill Elementary PFC Newsletter
Volume 26, Issue 15, November 6, 2018
From the Principal
We hope everyone is safe and staying indoors as much as possible. As you know, the air quality has be less than desirable, at best, and we will continue to conduct all activities indoors until the air is clear.
Unfortunately, this makes for restless kids. We are hoping the air quality will improve so we can get outdoors again. By the same token, we are incredibly saddened by the effects of the fires throughout California and our hearts go out to the people affected.
On another note, our student council elections have come and gone. I never knew how many kids could fit in the principal’s office until Mrs. Gustafson brought in all the students who ran for student council positions to announce the winners via the intercom.
Have a wonderful week and if I don't see you, have a happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Mr. Daubenspeck

Movie Night Success!
Over 80 kids came to watch the movie, though if we measured by popcorn consumption, we could have easily guessed twice that number! We appreciate everyone’s help implementing the new wristband process and for picking up on time. Thanks to our stellar volunteers, Sally Bonini and all staff who support our Movie Nights. We raised money that will help the school and assist the Dads Club with implementing some sustainability measures (plant-based cups and water coolers are coming)! If you have feedback for this event or you want to join our club, email us at dadsclub@thornhillschool.org and join our committee on Konstella. **ALL Thornhill parents and guardians are welcome to participate in Club activities.**

Celebrating Sustainability Successes!
This year's Walkathon was a landmark Thornhill event — not only did we raise much needed funds and have a blast on the day of, but this was the most sustainably conscious school-wide event to date! Thanks to Pam Schwartz, our plastic footprint was significantly reduced by re-purposing prizes. Thanks to Rudy Gonzalez, the Green Team, and the Dads Club volunteers, we used only compostable and reusable ware, and properly sorted all waste materials! Thanks to Bonnie Forbes and her awesome kindergarteners, we had colorful and clearly marked signs to help guide folks to the right sorting bins, including the Otter Pop landfill buckets. And, thanks to all of you who brought your water bottles and limited our single-use waste habit! At the end of the event, we had LESS THAN a waste bin of landfill! Congratulations Thornhill! We are on the right road!
