Rivera's Class
Zoo Animals
Zoo Unit!
In our zoo unit the kids will be able to identify different zoo animals, use vocabulary to match the name of the animal with their picture, and learn what a zoo keeper does. They'll also be able to identify the different sounds zoo animals make.
"The Zoo song"
To start off our fun zoo unit we'll start with a song. I'll assign some of the students to be certain animals and each time we sing the song and it gets to their part they'll come up and make the sound their animal makes.
Activities
Snacks!
We're going to make bears by using a bagel and spreading peanut butter/nutella on it, then the children will take pre-sliced bananas to make ears and for the nose and mouth they're going to use grapes. Not only is it fun to make these but it's healthy too. This is very simple to do at home with your kids too.
Making zoo keeper name tags!
We're going to ask if your child can bring in a picture of themselves or a family member so they can make a zoo keeper name tag. Using small pieces of construction paper the kids can paste their pictures onto it and decorate it however they want, then I'll write their names on the tag for them. During this fun activity they'll be able to learn what a zoo keeper does.
Smartboard Activity
Each student will be able to participate in this smart board activity by going up and matching the name of the zoo animal to its correct one.
Activities to do at home
Make your at home zoo. Set up different stuffed animals around your living room, but the in "cages" as they might be at the zoo and have your child be the zoo keeper. Have he/she list off the different things the zoo keeper does to take care of the animals.
