MVHS Model Citizens of the Week
MVHS Model Citizens of the Week are nominated by students and staff. Selection criteria is based on the American Citizenship Awards for students who:
- Participate in school and/or community service
- Show a positive attitude toward classmates, school, and the community
- Display an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility
- Possess strength of character and the courage to do what is right
- Promote citizenship with their school or community through other activities
The American Citizenship Awards criteria are endorsed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Golf
The Medina Valley varsity girls golf team competed in the Harlan Spring Invitational at Pleasanton Country Club on Friday March 22nd as a final tune up for the district tournament. The girls came away with the team title with a combined score of 366. The team consisted of Gabriela McNelly, Autumn Bjorklund, Bailey Matsumura, Kiley Winkler, and Hannah Dowell. As individuals the girls came away with both 1st and 2nd place. Gabriela McNelly finished in 1st with a score of 80 and Autumn Bjorklund finished in 2nd place with a round of 85. The girls will compete in the district tournament this week on Tuesday March 26th and Wednesday March 27th at Pleasanton Country Club.
Boys Golf
The Medina Valley varsity boys golf team competed in the Harlan Spring Invitational on Friday March 22nd. The boys competed well coming away with 3rd place overall with a combined score of 367. The team consisted of Brayden McHazlett, Alex Roth, Conner Haby, and Luke Krieger. The boys will now focus on the district tournament which will be held April 5th and 6th at Pleasanton Country Club.
Boy's Soccer Update

The Panthers boys Varsity soccer team had their last home game of the season last night against Floresville. The Panthers started off a little sluggish in the 1st half but were able to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the 2nd half the Panthers totally dominated Floresville and scored 4 goals. Panthers win 5-0. Scoring for the Panthers were, Rudy Mermella, Pablo Sandoval, Austin Pinedo, Aaron Ledesma, Jose Rodriguez. Jose Suarez had 4 assists on the night. The Panthers defense had a strong night, led by goalie, Clayton Vogel and defenders, Pablo Sandoval, Case Henrich, Jacob Seay, Taylor Davidson, Reinen Garcia, Aaron Ledesma, Gustavo Salas, Jose Rodriguez, Austin Pinedo and Jose Suarez.
The Panthers hosted Floresville Tuesday night and came away with a convincing 6-0 victory. The Panthers dominated the entire game with both great offensive and defensive play. Scoring goals for the Panthers were David Garcia, Travis Barton and Vicente Gonzales with 1 each, and Gabe Human netted 3 more. Assists came from Travis Barton, Vicente Gonzales, and Gabe Human with 1 each, and Nate Marasigan with 2.
March 25, 2019
The Panthers boys’ varsity soccer team finished their season Friday night on the road against Southside. The Panthers found themselves down 1-0 at half. In the 2nd half, the Panthers were able to tie the game on a goal by Austin Pinedo and an assist from Jose Suarez. The Panthers fought hard to take the lead but it was Southside who was able to find the back of the net. Panthers lose 2-1.
Overall Record: 10-13-2 District: 6-9-1
Girl's Soccer Update

The Lady Panthers took on Floresville High School last night and got a big victory 5-1. Audra Clark scored 2 goals while Brianna Peterson, Jordan Faragoza, and Ellie Smith each scored 1 goal with the assists coming from Brianna Peterson, and Audra Clark.
The JV Girls Soccer team tied Floresville High School last night with a final score of 1-1 . A great game from our offense with the goal coming from Liliana Burch on a penalty kick. We had some fantastic saves from goalie Nele Schrolers! The team pulled together and gave us a great final game for the end of the JV season. We ended as #1 in District and are excited for what is to come for the following JV soccer season. We will work hard to continue to improve during the off season.

The Lady Panthers took on Southside high School winning the game 9-1 making us District Champions! Ellie Smith had an amazing 5 goals, while Jordan Faragoza scored 2. And Kaitlyn Davidson, Brianna Peterson, and Audra Clark each scored 1 goal. The Assists coming from Ellie Smith, Brianna Mcclain, Audra Clark, and Lauren Piper. The Lady Panthers finish off 19-3-2 on the season and 13-1-2 in District play.
Softball
March 19, 2019
In Varsity action the panthers blew out Southside with a 15-0 victory. Ashley DeCock was the winning pitcher of record. The Panthers tallied up 15 hits including 3 home runs by Katie Burris, Madison Guerrero and Ashley DeCock.
During JV action Madison Haby threw a shutout to lead the Panthers past Southside 13-0 on Tuesday. The panthers tallied four runs in the third inning. Deitra Gutierrez, Madison Sotelo, and Gwen Sanders powered the big inning with RBIs. Haby got the win for Panthers. She lasted five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking one.

On Friday district action JV Black defeated Uvalde 13-4. Madison Sotelo was the winning pitcher of record.
Friday Night was staff appreciation. Congrats to all those who were selected and a special congrats to our outstanding service award winner Mrs. Jan Tschirhart.
During varsity action Trystan Benke Fired up the offense with a solo homerun in the first inning. Then the panthers pulled away for good with 7 hits in the 3rd inning. Christine Tschirhart ended the game with a walk off home run to run rule Uvalde 11-1.
Ashley DeCock was recorded with the win striking out 7 and allowing only 3 hits.
JV Softball
This past weekend the JV orange Panthers traveled down to Cibolo for the Cibolo-Steele Tournament.
Thursday the panthers defeated Clemens 6-3, Alamo Heights 13-11 and Southwest 6-4 to claim the first place seed in the Pool play.
On Saturday, the Panthers played strong however they came up just short losing a nail biter vs Steele 12-11. Over all the panthers came out claiming 2nd place in the tournament.
Baseball

The Varsity Baseball Team beat the Somerset Bulldogs 15-6 last night. another strong pitching performance by Zack Hecker led the Panthers. JJ Marty came in relief and received the win on the mound. Offensively, the Panthers were led by Cole Modgling, Garrett Leggitt, and Charlie Marsh with three hits a piece. It was a great team effort with everyone contributing.

The Varsity Baseball team defeated the Floresville Tigers Friday night. Mason Doyon picked up the victory on the mound and JJMarty garnered a save.
Offensively, Aaron Sotelo reached base on all three plate appearances and Doyon had two RBI's.
The team is currently 13-2 on the year and 6-1 in district.

Last night the JV Panthers defeated the JV Bulldogs from Somerset 10 to 4. The Panthers did not play very well the first two innings and found themselves behind 2 to 4. Clayton Brawley provided an offensive spark for the Panthers with a 2 RBI double in the 4th inning. The Panthers scored 6 runs in the inning to take the lead and win the game. Isaiah Clements pitched well for the Panthers. He pitched 2 innings, gave up 0 runs, and struck out 4 batters.

Panther relays were ran Thursday night here at MV! Congrats to the varsity boys & the varsity girls who dominated the team divisions each placing first. JV boys team division won as well and JV girls placed 3rd overall.

41 students (8 teams) traveled to Tarleton State University today for the largest judging contest in the state (if not the country)! The Medina Valley FFA had a GREAT day! Results are as follows...
Horse judging earned 1st place team with Garrett Hoak earning 15th high individual out of 900+ students! Horse judging was also awarded a $1,000 scholarship!
Dairy foods earned 4th place team with Essence Cummings earning 13th high individual out of 400+ students!
Livestock judging earned 18th place team with Olivia Garza winning 1st high individual out of 1,000+ students!
Land judging earned 14th place team!
Homesite judging earned 20th place team!
Vet tech earned 23rd place team with Max Dimas earning 11th out of 900+ students!

Southwest Texas Junior College Orientation
SWTJC Orientation at MVHS is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 from 9-11 a.m. This orientation is a requirement for all new/incoming dual credit students. This will be the only orientation offered at MVHS. If a student cannot attend they will have to attend an orientation offered at a different location.
