Finally, you may find that your college(s) participate in several applications. Please note, all colleges report that any of the applications work for their purposes and none are preferred over any of the other application platforms. They prefer the student make the best choice for application platform. Do this by reviewing your list and using the application that can best be used by multiple colleges on your list. You may get lucky with only one application platform, but most students will use several.
*Remember you are applying as an UNDERGRADUATE FRESHMAN for Fall 2024*
Action Item: Send Academic Records
Warren/CCA Transcripts
All colleges review academic performance. Most colleges require students to send a transcript from their high school Registrar's Office. For all NISD schools, you must request through the district's website. There is a $3 charge per transcript, including a copy for yourself if you choose to get one. It is best to request the transcripts are sent directly to the colleges. It is the preferred method for most schools.
College Credit Transcripts
If you have completed Dual Credit courses with Northwest Vista and/or UT Austin (On Ramps), please make sure to send those transcripts from those schools. NISD and Warren/CCA cannot access or send on their behalfFor Dual Credit, log into your ACES account, click on the student link and request official transcripts. For OnRamps, log into your UTDirect account to request transcripts.
Self Reported Grades
There some colleges across the country that prefer students self-report their grades instead of sending a transcript. The California public schools ask students to report grades on the application as do some Common App schools. There is another self-report option called Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR). In Texas, there are 5 schools that require grades this way. You can see those schools on the list below. 4 of the 5 schools will use an online system for students to fill out and then link their grades back to their colleges. The University of Houston is the only school of the five that asks you to report the core classes only. See below for more info.
Which Texas colleges/universities accept the SSAR/SRAR?
- Baylor University
- Texas A&M University
- University of Texas at Arlington
- University of Texas at San Antonio
For the most up-to-date list of participating colleges and universities, please reference the 'My Colleges and Universities' dashboard on the home page of your SRAR/SSAR.
Please note, the University of Houston also requires students to self-report their grades. They use a different system. Link here for information on their process.
Advanced Placement
Please note, AP classes and/or exams are NOT college credit. They are exams that colleges can review for credit, but they are not automatically college courses. AP scores can often be self-reported in the application without having to request for admission review.

Applying for Financial Aid
The 2024-2025 financial aid (FAFSA/TASFA) application opened in December 2023.
You will use the 2022 1040 tax information for parents and students.
The first step in the financial aid application process will be to create an FSA ID for the student and one for one parent. Once you have both FSA ID's, you will go to studentaid.gov (see image below) and begin the FAFSA.
Below are different types of financial aid you may be eligible for when you complete the FAFSA.
If you have questions regarding your eligibility to apply for financial aid, contact Ms. Garza in the career center or the financial aid office at the college or university you plan to attend.
Not planning to file for Financial Aid?
Pick up an Opt Out form from the Career Center or print one below.
Please note, per NISD, both student and parent/guardian signatures are required
even if a student is 18 years old. This is a district requirement.
Once the form is completed, please return it to the Career Center for processing.
Action Item: Apply to Scholarships
Please do your research for opportunities at your schools and within your community.
Action Item: Orientation Sign-up OR Enrollment Deposit
Please note, the enrollment deposit is different than a housing deposit. Enrollment deposit holds a place in the class for the student and housing holds a dorm room/space for the student. Enrollment deposits are typically tracked by admission offices while housing is tracked by residence life offices.
If you confirm enrollment with a Texas college, you must demonstrate your level of college readiness. This is most commonly done by taking the TSI (Texas Success Initiative) assessment. You can take this exam at your college or at one of our local campuses. Northwest Vista is the most common location to take the TSI. You can review NVC's Testing Center's information here or call any of the other Alamo Colleges or your college for other testing site information.
You may also exempt out of taking the TSI with your SAT or ACT scores. Scores may exempt you from the whole test or sections of the TSI. You must send your test scores to the college for exemption review. SAT qualifying scores are 530 in the Math Section and/or 480 in the Evidence Based Reading and Writing Section. ACT must have an individual score of 19 in Math and/or English AND an overall score of 23. Click here to review TEA's exemption policies.
