KEEPING YOU CONNECTED...
Dear Parent/Guardian,
In Galena Park ISD, we have so much to be thankful for. We serve over 22,000 students every day and we are tremendously thankful for the opportunity to touch so many lives. This season of Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect and think of the many reasons there are to be grateful. Thank you for sharing your most prized possession with us--your child! We value our students and parents and we know you are an essential piece to our puzzle.
As a District, we will continue to share reminders, updates, and successes monthly to keep you connected.
Thank you for taking the time to stay connected!

We Love Our Community Partners
On October 12, Galena Park ISD held their annual Community Leadership Council (CLC) meeting for local community and business leaders. The leadership council had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Williams and her administrative cabinet to learn of the great things happening in the District!
During the meeting, the CLC and cabinet members participated in a group activity to discuss and work collaboratively to develop a plan to communicate the importance of voting. The CLC shared their great ideas on how to increase voter registration and participation and reduce voter apathy. We are looking forward to implementing their suggestions during the 2018 Primary Election.
“A great way to get students involved would be to hold a pep rally on the first day of early voting,” said CLC member, Senator Sylvia Garcia. “The pep rally will get students excited about voting.”
We would like to thank the CLC members for attending the meeting and we look forward to future collaboration with them at the next meeting!
GPISD Retired Educators' Luncheon
Once a year, GPISD hosts the luncheon to thank our retired educators for their instrumental work in our community and schools. Through their years and decades of dedication to the GPISD community, these retirees have helped shape the district into what it is today and they continue to make a huge impact on the community.
We are so thankful to have the retired educators as apart of our family!

THANKSGIVING BREAK NOVEMBER 20TH-24TH
November is National Child Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental health in childhood means reaching developmental and emotional milestones, learning healthy social skills, and how to cope when there are problems (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). The most commonly diagnosed mental disorders in children are attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety and behavior disorders.
Healthcare professionals use the guidelines in The American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual to help diagnose mental health disorders in children. Other conditions and concerns that affect children’s learning, behavior, and emotions include learning and developmental disabilities, autism, and risk factors such as substance use and self-harm.
We can help! For assistance with any of these concerns with your child, please contact your child’s school counselor. The school counselors will work with the District’s Lead Crisis Responders, Dr. Mechelle Epps and Dr. Karen Haynes, to provide intervention services.
Early Childhood Intervention Matters to All of US!
