Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel
Glaucomys sabrinus coloratus
Carolina Northern Flying Squirrels are most commonly found in the Northeast. Ex. (Idaho and Montana)
Carolina Northern Flying Squirrels are endangered because their habitats are being destroyed when workers are clearing forests.
What is being done to save these creatures?
North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commision and Duke Power have created a place for these creatures to roam free from harm. They installed 47-foot tall wooden poles with beams running across them so the squirrels could get across roads safely. They even have some hiding spots in the poles to keep the squirrels out of sight from owls and hawks.
