Week of February 8-12

What A Fun and Busy Week!

Monday-Happy 100th Day of School! We had a very busy day full of exciting 100th day activities. In math, we practiced sorting our collections in groups of tens, fives, and even twos! We loved sharing our collections and sorting. Check out the fun pictures below. In PE, students participated in the 100 Ball Drop as well as Buddy PE. How exciting! During writing, we generated ideas of things we would do with $100. Some ideas were to save it, buy a penguin, and give it to Ms. Crummie! We created 100th Day headbands to wear around the school. Students even drew themselves as 100 years old. It was a marvelous day!

Tuesday-For our book buddy time, we paired up with our fifth grade friends to see if we could write 100 words! The students looked around our room for words to try to make it to 100. Everyone enjoyed it-incuding the fifth graders. During guidance, we created Valentine Day cards for residents of The Meadows. We enjoy making these cards each month. What fun community building activities! On the laptops, students had the opportunity to practice their reading and comprehension skills using Raz Kids. We are continuing to work on understanding what we are reading, as well as building our sight word vocabulary.

Wednesday-Today we reflected upon our 100th day of school and which activities were our favorites. Most of the reflections included sorting our 100 things and playing the 100 ball drop in PE. In reading, we focused on sounding out the words. Students are putting this into practice as we are reading new and familiar texts.

Thursday-During writing, we created Valentine's cards for other members of our school community. Some students chose to make cards for Nurse Debbie, Mr. Laird, and Mrs. Anhold. Students also participated in decorating their Valentines holder for tomorrow. During literacy, we practiced our sight words and putting our sight words into sentences. Feel free to practice this at home.

Friday-What a fun Valentine Celebration we had! In math, we sorted and graphed conversation hearts. We learned about the words "most" and "least". Students enjoyed passing out Valentines to their friends and eating the goodies families provided. Have fun reading the Valentine cards this weekend! We also read our non-fiction Let's Find Out about Valentine's day. Check out the magazine coming home.
