This Week's Schedule
MAP Testing
MCPS has provided additional details on the test, including information about the practice test, at this website.
The next two Wednesdays will not be “typical”.
During each Wednesday, students will be engaged in asynchronous learning during the morning hours. Students may also take the MAP practice tests (see link above). No live check-ins are scheduled for either Wednesday.
At 12:30 p.m. all students are asked to report to their 4th period class’s Zoom room to complete MAP testing.
Questions about MAP testing may be directed to your child’s grade level administrator.
Baron Time - Redefined
Baron Time as previously noted in the schedule is being redefined to more closely match each day and time’s purpose.
New Name: Barons Accessing Teachers
When: A Days - 2:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Typical Wednesdays - 2:10 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
How is this time used? The time is designed to allow teachers and students to engage in on-going academic support in a drop-in and/or pre-scheduled format. Students may choose which, if any, teachers to visit but teachers may also assign students to attend based on instructional needs (e.g. make-up work, reteaching, etc.). This is not a time for new instruction and every possible effort will be made to preserve this time for student teacher interaction. All teachers should be available during this time.
New Name: Baron Time
When: B Days - 1:40 p.m. - 2:40 p.m.
How is the time used? This time is designed to be used for a variety of purposes that will support the whole school program including academic support, social emotional learning, Link Crew, MYP, IB DP, clubs, SGA, etc. Attendance, participation, and engagement are expectations. In general, students will return to periods 1-7 on a rotational basis to engage in lessons and activities as required. A team of staff members is drafting a comprehensive calendar at this time and will share that as soon as it is available.

Live Virtual Lesson Absence Form
Students are expected to attend all live virtual learning classes in which they are enrolled. However, in some instances, this may not be possible due to illness or extenuating circumstances. Students may then access the recording of the class to engage in the daily learning during an alternate time within 72 hours of the absence. Students/Parents/Guardians may then submit a Live Virtual Lesson Absence Form to document that they engaged in the lesson and to request the unexcused absence to be reconciled to Present. If extenuating circumstances exist, parents/guardians are encouraged to communicate with the school’s administration ahead of time. The Live Virtual Lesson Absence Form must be completed for each documented absence.
The Live Virtual Lesson Absence Form link is located in the upper left corner of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School homepage.
Recorded Lessons and Breakout Rooms
Teachers will be recording lessons in order to support families and students, create flexibility in accessing learning experiences when attending live instruction is a barrier, and enhance the opportunity to review lesson content and resources.
When students first log in, their video and audio is off by default. If students should not be recorded, they should leave these off.
Recordings are protected, available only to students through a protected myMCPS site, unavailable for download, and will delete after 72 hours.
We recognize that even with these protections there may be students or families who do not want their children’s images or voices to be captured. If you would like to have your student opt out of being in the recording, they should keep their video off in each class from the start of the school year.
Parents/guardians are asked to indicate an opt out in the ParentVue portal by September 11, 2020.
It is anticipated that all B-CC teachers will be using small group breakout rooms during instruction. Ground rules regarding these breakout rooms will be provided to students and parents.

Community Resources
Below is information regarding food/grocery access beyond the MCPS school meal sites:
Food Assistance Resource Map: The Montgomery County Food Council created an interactive map of food assistance providers and benefits application assistance sites in Montgomery County. It is searchable by location, food assistance type, accessibility and many other special features. This resource can give principals and families a quick view of local resources in their area. The information indicates where, when and how to access the resources. **We would caution parents and staff supporting parents to pay particular attention to how one qualifies to access food as some sites state requirements.
Weekend Bag Program: MCPS, Manna Food Center, and Women Who Care Ministries are distributing weekend backpacks with groceries to the families of MCPS students each Friday. The location of distribution sites and times are listed at the bottom of the webpage.
