What Is Copyright?
Copyright is the collection of rights granted to the author of a piece of work (book, picture, song, video, software, etc)
Public Domain
Public domain means that it isn't protected by copyright laws.
There are three reasons that this could happen:
- The copyright has expired
- The work was created using public money
- The creator donated the work to public domain
Examples:
- Classic Literature-- The copyright has expired
- Classical Music-- The copyright has expired
Freeware
Copyrighted work that you can copy, use, or give away for free.
Examples:
- iTunes
- Internet Explorer
- Windows Media Player
Shareware
Copyrighted work that you can share or copy for free, but only for a limited amount of time.
Examples:
- Lite apps
All Rights Reserved
It allows only the purchaser to use it.
Examples:
- Anything bought at a store, like Best Buy
Open Source
Software that includes the source code with th idea that someone can improve it.
Examples:
Chrome is open source
- Safari is not
