Point of View
Bario Boy scene sketch
"UNLIKE PEOPLE WHO are born in hospitals, in an ambulance, or in a taxicab, I showed up in an adobe cottage with a thatched roof that stood at the end of the only street of Jalcocotan, which everybody called Jalco for short."
This shows that it is his point of view because he tells details about where he was born, which allows you to imagine how it looks and how his life is different from others. The image shows an adobe cottage with a thatched roof like he described in the book. This imagery is important because if it wasn't included you wouldn't be able to see how his life is different, and the purpose of the book, that they don't have big houses with nice roofing, that all they have is little cottages for many people to live in and that they didn't have nice to be born in. Making it first person gives you personal details and thoughts which makes it more provoked.
"On the edge of the pond,at the far side, there was an enormous walnut tree, standing like an open umbrella whose ribs extended halfway across the still water of the pool."
This is his point of view because it shows it from his eyes and the way he sees it. This image shows a pond with a tree behind like he had explained. This imagery is important because if it wasn't included you wouldn't be able to understand the point in the book at that moment and see what he is viewing, He includes this detail about the pond in the book because the women have to kneeling down in the water to wash there clothes in the water. (They where not as fortunate as people today in the U.S. that have access to washer and driers.)Making it first person gives you more detail and helps you connect to a personal experience.
"If the invaders broke through, they would find a deserted village."
This is his point of view because he explained how if they got invaded that they would have to leave and find a deserted village which is really hard. this image shows an adobe cottage on a dirt road, which is what something would look like once they found there new village. This is important to include in the text because it helps you understand there struggles and how they have to change their way of living sometimes on short notice. Making it first person gives you more emotion and detail.
