Spring Lake Park Schools Families:
With a new school year approaching and COVID-19 lingering in our state, school plans and health and safety are on people’s minds. Spring Lake Park Schools will offer full-time (5 days per week), in-person learning for grades K-12 for the 2021-2022 school year. For families interested in online options, SLP Schools Online is a state-approved online school for grades K-12. A trimester commitment is required.
Throughout the summer, we’ve followed updated health and safety practices. Last week, there was updated guidance provided to schools from the Minnesota Department of Health. Our practices continue to be in line with state recommendations.
We are monitoring the evolving situation with COVID-19 and guidance provided by Minnesota Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and will remain responsive to any adjustments that may be needed. We are paying particular attention to the situation for children under the age of 12 as we recognize they are not yet eligible for a vaccination.
Here is a summary of our current health and safety practices:
- Face masks are not required but are recommended. Minnesota is recommending -- not requiring -- that everyone inside public school buildings wear masks this fall regardless of their vaccination status. Face masks are required on student transportation following federal requirements.
- Quarantine is required for anyone who tests positive for COVID-19. We will communicate any additional quarantine practices before school begins as we continue to monitor guidance.
- Physical distancing will continue to be maintained at 3 feet or greater where possible.
- Health screening continues to be strongly recommended. Anyone exhibiting any symptoms should stay home when they are sick and report positive COVID-19 cases to help us determine potential impacts and notify individuals with potential exposures.
- COVID-19 vaccinations, proof of vaccination and testing are not required. Vaccination for people 12 years-old and older is strongly recommended.
- Many other health and safety measures – cleaning protocols, hand hygiene practices and more – continue to be in place. See a summary at our COVID-19 hub.
We encourage people to review and follow public health recommendations specifically as it relates to face masks and vaccination. We continue to work to create an environment that balances a variety of personal interests and desires and will monitor the situation and guidance as it continues to evolve and make adjustments as necessary.
Despite COVID-19 continuing to linger in our community, we are excited to welcome students to a new school year and learning at school five days a week. Watch for more information in the coming weeks from your child’s school and on our website as we countdown to the first day of the 2021-2022 school year. In the meantime, enjoy these last weeks of summer.
Be well,
Jeff Ronneberg, Ed.D.
Superintendent
