Energy
Kinetic Energy, Potential Energy, and Conservation of Energy
By: Nicole Robertson
Kinetic Energy
Kinetic energy is when an object is in motion. Kinetic energy is also a scalar quantity, it does not have a direction. It is dependent on mass and speed.
Potential Energy
Potential energy is not energy in motion. Potential energy is dependent on its position and condition.
Conservation of Energy
The conservation of energy states that the total energy of an isolated system cannot change. For example chemical energy can be converted to kinetic energy in the explosion of a stick of dynamite.
