Valley High School Update


Academics Next week will be a regular week. Monday we have Advisory. Tuesday and Thursday will be Encore. Please make sure you have signed up for both Encore days. We are now in the course registration process for the 22-23 school year. Please talk to your student to make sure you know the classes for which they are signing up for next year. Beginning second semester, Valley High School is focusing on reducing the number of unexcused absences. One way you can help your student is by calling the school if they are absent and communicating the importance of being at school on a regular and consistent basis. If your student is going to be absent, please call or email our attendance line (515) 633-4000 or vhsattendance@wdmcs.org	Arts Congratulations to Valley's Jazz Orchestra for being selected to perform at the 2022 Iowa Bandmasters Association annual conference at the Downtown Marriott on May 12th, 2022! Of the many outstanding groups from across Iowa who applied for this prestigious honor, Valley's Jazz Orchestra was selected as the featured jazz band for the conference! Congratulations to the 23 out of 26 IHSSA soloists and ensembles chosen to advance to state competition taking place at Valley High School! Below are important dates for IHSSA students and families: State IHSSA Contest: February 4/5 @ Valley All State IHSSA Festival: February 18/19 @ IS The Vocal Department presents Sweetheart Shows Feb 8 & 10. Tickets and details are at GiveButter.com/Sweetheart22. Attend in person at the PAC, or watch it live-streamed. You don't want to miss it...with performances including show choirs, jazz choirs, ensembles and solos!	Activities Saturday, February 12th is Valley's Sweetheart Dance at the Horizon Event Center in Clive (old 7 Flags) from 7:00-10:00 PM. Tickets will be $15 and the theme is Love is in the Air!! Students MUST reserve a ticket in advance if they plan to attend the danceTicket reservations for the Sweetheart Dance will be accepted next week (1/31-2/4) Students will receive an email with the link to access the reservation form on Monday January 31st. Thank you to the parents who have signed up to assist with the Valley After-Prom Committee, though more parents and volunteers are needed for the 2022 Prom as this is an entirely parent-run event. Chess Club has resumed match play Tuesdays after school in the Media Center. Students who are interested in poetry, prose or artwork are encouraged to submit their work to Ms. Perry (perrye@wdmcs.org) for a chance to be featured in Valley's literary magazine, Ink. Prayer Club meets Friday morning at 7:20 AM in Mrs. Stanfel's room, 1607. Come for breakfast, fellowship and prayer. Join the Greenhouse Club in room 1329 the first and third Wednesdays of each month after school. Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) meets Thursdays 3:30-4:15 in room 3422. Republican Club is a place for all young people to discuss politics from a conservative perspective. Meets every Friday morning at 7:45 in room 2314. Join us for Anime Club every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:30 AM in Ms. Stanfel's Room 1607.
