Mindful Minute Activity
The quality of our breathing tells us a lot about where our headspace is at. Chances are, if you're feeling a bit anxious, your breath may feel short, shallow, or constrained. So one simple way to relieve stress is to practice deep breathing through the diaphragm.
Taking long, deep breaths when feeling cluttered, distracted, or ungrounded begins to relax the nervous system and draws the attention to the present moment.
If you're new to deep breathing exercises, try the four count method. Breathe in for four seconds, then breathe out for four seconds. Repeat this five times.
-adapted from NYC-based meditation instructor Kirat Randhawa.
Seniors: Financial Aid (FAFSA)
The FAFSA opened on October 1st. Each college can set their own priority deadline- if you haven't yet, be sure to complete the FAFSA ASAP and prior to the first priority deadline. If you need help completing the FAFSA- check out the opportunities for College Goal WI or the GHS Financial Aid Fall 2020 presentation.
The website from Sallie Mae has great resources from the basics to more detailed info about the various methods to help afford college. A great video series is also available.
Junior State ACT Test March 9
All juniors will be taking the statewide ACT exam on March 9. New this year, students will have the option of taking the test either on-line or traditional pen and paper. Please discuss with your student as to which format might be best for him/her. Both testing options will take place in-person at GHS.
Grafton High School is committed to providing all Juniors with opportunities to prepare for the ACT. Students have been setting ACT goals and organizing a prep plan in their Communication Arts classes.
ACT test prep options available through GHS include:
● Method Test Prep: Free -online ACT test prep is available to all students.
● Wisconsin Test Prep: ( on-site ACT test prep class). Instructor is a GHS teacher. Starts in January for 6 weeks. Brochures are available in the counseling office
● Additional test preparation resources are available online at the counseling website under the Testing Information page
All junior parents received an email with the Junior Parent ACT Information Session which included an ACT informational video and ACT presentation slides . We hope this information will help you support your junior through this important step toward postsecondary readiness.
