National Constitution Day: September 16th
Download free resources at iCivics.org. The Learning Blog from the NYTimes has an excellent "text to text" lesson incorporating the ideas of Michael Seidman's Op-Ed piece, "Let's Give Up the Constitution" with the text of the Constitution. The Learning blog also has a column on skills and strategies. This week's column highlights the exit slip.
Cybersecurity Month: October 2015
Engage your students in cybersecurity awareness. Have them enter the NYS 2015-2016 Kids Safe Online Poster Contest. Deadline: December 2, 2015. Have your students take the STOP, THINK, CONNECT Safety Quiz published by the StaySafeOnline.Org. Common Sense Media Foundation has a complete curriculum online about digital citizenship
and many different online resources about copyright and online security.
Museums of NY: Life at the Limits: Stories of Amazing Species
Take advantage of Educator Night at the Museum of Natural History, Friday, September 25, 2015. Free food, drinks, and teaching guides and materials.
The Museum of Jewish Heritage has a new exhibit on immigration and the
U. S. experience. If you want to visit with your class, attend one of the free pd workshops. They are being offered on 9-25, 10-11, or 11-13.

The English Language Learner Resource Center has student worksheets on creating a thesis statement, graphic organizers and more. To access the database, use the user name and password: flushinghs. Many of the other databases have different learning aids as well. Explore the databases. Pick up a handout about the databases in the library.
