Center Township Weekly Update
October 14, 2022
Greetings CT Families!
The first month of school was focused on routines and getting back into the swing of school. While academics started from day one, you really begin to see an increase in academic expectations as the school year progresses. Please reach out to your children’s teachers with any concerns or questions you may have about how they are doing both academically and socially.
This year our fifth graders have the exciting opportunity to participate in chorus. The overwhelming majority of our students are participating in this musical ensemble. The children are learning to sing a variety of songs, read music, and develop performance skills, while building thinking skills such as concentration and fostering creativity.
The chorus is focusing on patriotic songs in preparation for their first performance in honor of Veteran’s Day.
What's New?
Beginning Monday, October 17, and running through November 4, we will collect donations for our armed forces and local veterans in recognition of Veterans Day. We have two separate donation drives running simultaneously. First, we will be collecting unopened bags of heat-resistant candy to send to Operation Shoebox. This organization sends care packages to active duty military members around the world, and each box includes a bag of candy. Center Township wants to brighten service members' days by helping to provide some of this candy! As you're shopping for candy to hand out to trick-or-treaters (or buying up that bargain candy after Halloween), pick up some extra and send it in with your child!
We are also encouraging students to make cards/write letters to veterans. A general template was sent home with the PTO flyer, but there are more up for grabs in the music room should your child want to create more than one. We will be sending these to local veterans, so please address these just to a veteran in general ("Dear Veteran"); however, if you have a veteran in your life that you would like your child to also honor, they can pick up an extra paper or two so that you can personally deliver these to a special veteran that you may know.
Let's see how many past and present service members Center Township students can impact! Please reach out to PTO at centertwppto@gmail.com with any questions.
