Volume 1 - Issue 1
Welcome to the Inaugural Issue!!
Challenger League & Special Olympics
The Challenger League is a co-ed activity of non-competitive sports. We play flag football and soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, and baseball/t-ball in the spring. We encourage students in middle school and high school to volunteer as “buddies” alongside our special needs athletes. Special events include the POAC walk for autism, end of season luncheon and awards, and basketball drills with the HS girl's basketball team.
Coaches: Dave Leonard & Renee Risden
The Special Olympics at the middle and high school levels engages in competitive sports in snowshoeing, bowling, basketball skills, and track. We also host the annual Spring Dance for Monmouth & Ocean Counties, participate in many community events such as the Cancer Walk in Gille Park and POAC walk for Autism, and host the concession stand at the Fisherman's Flea market. We have Unified Partners that consist of students who support our athletes and compete with them in Unified Sports. We also take two overnight trips per year where independent living skills are incorporated into our sports and social activities.
Coach: Renee Risden - Chaperone: Kathy Robinson
Feel free to contact Mrs. Risden or Mr. Leonard for more information.
IEP Goals & Objectives
IEPs are required to include a statement of measurable academic and functional annual goals. These goals are related, as appropriate, to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). Each goal should include short-term objectives related to meeting the student's needs that result from the student's disability to enable the student to be involved in and progress in the general education curriculum.
Progress towards IEP Goals & Objectives are reported at least four times per year. These progress reports are typically available at the same time that student report cards are available on the Parent Portal (unless otherwise discussed at the IEP meeting).
To access IEP Goals & Objectives progress reports, use the following steps:
- Login to the Parent Portal
- Under Menu on the left side, click G&O Progress
- Click the link under "Current Goal and Objective Progress"
- A document listing each Goal will open up. Under each goal will be one of the following progress indicators: Introduced, Re-Introduced, Limited Progress, Progressing, Mastered, or Not Introduced.
Feel free to contact your student's case manager with any questions regarding IEP Goals & Ojbectives.
