Annual Survey
As an annual check-up on the education system, the Accountability Pillar provides an opportunity for Alberta Education and school authorities to ensure that we are equipping students for success.
The Accountability Pillar uses a set of 16 indicators. Data on these indicators consists of surveys of students, parents and teachers on various aspects of education quality, student outcomes such as dropout and high school completion rates, and provincial assessments of student learning.
From January to the end of February, Alberta Education will be conducting the annual Accountability Pillar Survey.
- In January, parents of students in grades 4, 7 and 10 (change to grades 4-12 if applicable) will receive a survey from Alberta Education.
- In February, students in grades 4, 7 and 10 (change to grades 4-12 if applicable) and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school.
All surveys are anonymous and ask questions about experiences with your school. In addition to English and French, the parent survey is available in Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Dene, Cree, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog and Urdu. Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is receiving, so we encourage you to return your survey promptly. Survey results will be available to school authorities in May, and will be reported publicly as part of their 3-Year Education Plans and Annual Education Results Reports.
Outdoor Play at OLMP - Requesting Donations for OLMP Loose Parts Play!
Students have been busy at OLMP this week! Our grade 5/6 students explored new opportunities during outdoor play as we've implemented our loose parts playground, a rotation to visit the community park as well as outdoor playing tools such as shovels. Please continue to ensure grade 5/6 students are coming to school with appropriate dress for outdoor recesses.
Reminder: Loose parts are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways. They are materials with no specific set of directions that can be used alone or combined with other materials.
Some of the items that we will be looking for to furnish our center are: fence posts, ropes, cords, tarps, planks of wood, milk crates, pylons, etc.. If you are able to donate any of the items listed, or have any questions about donating parts please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Kate Wagner (katherine.wagner@eics.ab.ca).
We ask that you inquire before you donate, as we will be keeping a close eye on our inventory!

Book Recommendation
Book Recommended: The Hobbit
Author: J.R.R Tolkien
Recommended by: Kat Krys (Mr. McLean's daughter)
Book Description: This novel follows the adventures of a merry band of Dwarves and a Hobbit named Bilbo. They are on a quest to reclaim a lost Dwarven stronghold and it's treasure. They awaken Smaug, the dragon which starts a conflict between the Elves, Dwarves, and Men.
Why it is recommended: Excellent way for young teens to immerse themselves in classical fantasy literature. Animated movie and big screen adaptation by Peter Jackson adds new dimensions to the genre.
Modeling reading, reading with your children, and talking about the things they like to read are all ways to increase literacy and learning for our youth!
