THE SPEECH REACH
Mrs. Halliday's Speech Therapy info for December 2013
Where did this year go?!
I can't believe how fast this year is going! I hope all of you are looking forward to some time off and have the ability to spend the winter break with family and friends. I have been finding and printing little activities that could easily be completed at home over the break. Please let me know if you are interested in game ideas, word lists, and activities to practice at home and I will gladly send things I've collected. I know many families will be traveling or have busy schedules and may not have much time to spend on practicing speech/language but every little bit counts. As I've mentioned before, speech practice at home should be stress free and done quickly, especially for those kiddos who may not be quite consistent with making the correct sound. General practice and exposure to words that contain their target sound only helps to increase their awareness for the sound. My website, under the tab for Online Activities, has the top row dedicated to speech activities and access to word lists. For my kiddos that I see for language, take a peek at my website and try some of the online games as well. Again, please email me if you are interested in a "homework" packet for the break.
Just a reminder that when we return to school in January, it will be that time of year for grade cards and progress notes. Please look for your child's progress notes coming in his/her backpack around the time grade cards are emailed home. Please let me know if you have any questions.
I hope you all have a great break and the kids are ready to come back to Peculiar ready to continue their learning! See you in 2014!

Speech Ladder
For my students who are working on producing certain sounds correctly, I have created a speech ladder/speech flower for the students to track their own progress. We will take out these forms every month and see if the children are able to color another level. This helps draw awareness to what their goal is and where they are currently. The hierarchy is as follows; sound in isolation, sound in syllables, sound in all positions of words, sound in phrases, sound in sentences, sound in reading, sound in conversation. All speech groups have completed a ladder/flower and will continue to fill those in as they meet their goals. This has been very motivating for the kiddos!
