RMS Science Olympiad 2021-2022
If your student is interested, please mark your calendar for Tuesday, October 05, 2021 at 8pm. We will hold an informational meeting via Zoom, during which we will present an overview of the middle school Science Olympiad program and key dates in our competition season, as well as the process and requirements for joining the team.
The meeting link will be emailed a few days in advance so please email Head Coach Dr. Jayme Aschemeyer-LaValley at jayme.a.aschemeyer@gmail.com if you are interested in attending.
Between now and the October 5th info session, please have your student review the 23 events in this year's Science Olympiad competition, found here: https://www.soinc.org/events/2022-division-b-events
Romeo Ski and Snowboard Club is back!
We run our trips on Thursday evenings, 3:30-8pm, December, January and February. An informational meeting will be held on Nov 4th at 3:20, location RMS.
If you plan to buy new equipment, start looking now--stocks are already running low at local area shops. Pine Knob holds a Ski Swap Oct 30-31st. You can get great equipment at that sale. Of course, renting equipment is always an option as well.
If your child or children are interested in joining the club, please email: danielle.roeser@romeok12.org. You will get on the mailing list for this year.
Counseling Corner
Mental Health Summit - Seven 8th grade students from our Leadership Class have volunteered to participate in a statewide conversation about mental health and its impact on our youth. This will take place virtually at RMS on October 4th and 5th. We are very excited to be part of this initial Mental Health Summit and hope that it is the beginning of many more conversations and changes in our perceptions of Mental Health.
Too Good For Drugs - Representatives from Macomb Family Services will be working with our students to provide education around substance abuse and building personal voices to make good decisions when faced with challenging situations. They will begin meeting with our 6th grade students in the Healthy Living Classes soon.
OK2Say -A representative from the State Police Department will be hosting a virtual assembly for our 6th and 7th grade students to address the need for cyber safety and reporting concerns to make sure that all of our students feel safe and secure at school. This will take place in November.
Turning Point - Representatives from Turning Point, an organization that promotes healthy relationships and an end to Domestic Violence, will be speaking to our 8th grade students in December about knowing boundaries and developing healthy relationships.
FAN (Families Against Narcotics) - David Clayton will be speaking to our 8th Grade students about the importance of positive choices as they are faced with challenging situations throughout life. He will share his own personal journey and encourage others to create a world they can be proud to live in.
Kenny Spears (Positive You) - will be working with groups of students throughout the year to develop a sense of community and shared strength.
In addition to all of these exciting events, we will also be offering opportunities for individual counseling through Macomb Family Services Adolescent Outreach Program and the MI-Best program through the MISD. Macomb Family Services will also be running a Building Personal Power Group with our students. More information will be available soon about these opportunities.
Please know your counselors are here to support you and your students and feel free to reach out if you need assistance with anything.
