GAME ON!
Are we going to start playing more video games at school? No, by adding game-like elements to what we already do, we can inspire. Gamification of learning builds pathways that support individuals to work towards learning goals and nurture and progress talent within our organization...and IT'S FUN!
When one plays a video game, we don't expect to conquer the game on our first try. One expects to work level-by-level making mistakes to learn along the way in order to succeed. With this in mind, our first staff "game" was to turn the GAME ON theme into an acronym that encompassed our efforts this year. Shout out to Mrs. Lamb in 5th grade for the winning submission.

Social Emotional Learning and Monthly Themes
Second Step classroom lessons begin next week! In order to support growth in social emotional learning areas, students will receive Second Step lessons once a month this school year. Second Step is an evidence-based, social skills curriculum that covers areas such as empathy, anger management, impulse control, problem solving and decision making, as well as getting along with others and dealing with changes. Each class will receive 10- 12 classroom lessons over the course of the school year covering these and other related topics in varying detail. Lessons are provided by a trained para- professional through IUSD’s Guidance Assistant Program. If you would like more information on Second Step or other related services, check out IUSD’s Guidance Resources’ page found here.
The theme for August that we will be focusing upon with students is ACTIVE LISTENING.
