Scott 6th Grade Center's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
Staff Appreciation Week
This week is Staff Appreciation Week. We have a building full of amazing people that work hard everyday for our students. Thank you to the parents that have volunteered their time or made donations to help us celebrate the wonderful adults that work at Scott.
Mr. Altland and I have some special things planned to celebrate the staff this week as well.
Below are pictures of the sidewalks at Scott. Thank you to the students and parents that helped me decorate on Sunday afternoon to surprise the staff for Monday morning.
I also want to thank Mrs. Maricova for working with parents to organize the staff luncheon for Thursday!
Scott Star Students for April
On Friday morning, ten Golden Tickets were pulled from our Golden Ticket box in the main office. The following students were given the choice of a popscicle or an ice cream sandwich at lunch.
We want to congratulate Kevin Fuller, Dante Judge, Conor Murray, Jayden Remy, Santiago Gonzalez, Nevaeh Morton, Angeleigh Legree, Naomi Botchway, Fohadu Willie, and Dennis Ewing.
April's Student of the Month
Congratulations to our Student of the Month for April, Robert Eason!
Robert is doing a great job in all of his classes as a student and working hard to be a great friend and classmate. He follows our ROCKS expectations every day. Teachers and staff are very proud of the progress that Robert has made this year. Keep up the great work!
Employee of the Month for April
Congratulations, Ms. Hall! Ms. Hall received a banner to hang in her classroom, and she will be featured in our front hall of fame on the main floor. Mrs. Lamothe will also be washing her car.
Ms. Hall is an amazing member of our Scott team. She inspires her students to love reading and writing with engaging lessons and creative projects. Ms. Hall builds strong relationships with her students and works hard to keep all of our students safe and learning during the day. We are so lucky to have her as part of our Scott family. Thank you for all that you do for our students and staff!
Mrs. Ramirez, Mrs. Cook, and Mrs. Smith were runners up and received $5 gift cards to treat themselves to something special. We are so grateful for all of our amazing staff.
Congratulations, Colby!
The Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research (PSBR) recently sponsored a contest to encourage students from PA, West Virginia, and New Jersey to explore the connection between biomedical research and their lives. The contest provided the opportunity for students to conduct research and illustrate different aspects of biomedical research and science through art. Scott sixth grader Colby Palomeque selected the topic “Animal Research Saves Lives,” and learned all about how research with fruit flies has allowed us to learn more about pharmaceutics, genetics, cancer, and even brain diseases that affect humans. Colby’s impressive poster was selected as a winner. In addition to receiving a cash prize, his work will be featured in PSBR’s annual calendar. Congratulations Colby!

Nurse's Corner
Just a couple reminders to families:
- Students should not be contacting families to be picked up when they are not feeling well. Students need to be assessed by the nurse and calls home will be made as needed. If families want to be called each time their student comes to the nurse, please email Ann Keenan, school nurse (keenana@casdschools.org). It is not standard practice to call home for non-urgent matters.
- Emergency Health Forms were sent home (lime green). If you did not complete the Emergency Health Information online, you must complete the paperwork and return it to the school nurse.
- Covid 19 is still causing illness and absences. Please continue to test and take precautions to avoid further spread. 5 days of isolation followed by 5 days of well-fitting masks is the current CDC guideline. (see below).
- The school nurse will be starting health screenings (Vision, Growth and Scoliosis). If your student has glasses, please make sure they have them for school.

We have had a couple cases of head lice at Scott. Please read the attached letter for more information.
