Student's Solo Success
San Marcos HS Junior, Addison Odam, represented San Marcos CISD at the 95th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 28. Addison is a member of the SMHS FFA, a member of the National FFA Chorus, the SMHS Choir, and is pursuing the Veterinary Science CTE pathway at SMHS. During her time in Indianapolis, Addison performed at the City Market and sang a solo in front of 67,000 members and guests as part of the song "Louder Than Words" during the National FFA Convention opening ceremony. SMCISD is extremely proud of Addison, Congratulations!
Tomás Rivera – Celebration of Culture and Creativity
On Thursday, November 4, San Marcos CISD elementary and high school students attended the 28th annual Tomás Rivera Book Award event at Texas State University. Texas State University College of Education created The Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award in 1995 to honor authors and illustrators who create literature that depicts the Mexican American experience. It is named in honor of Texas State University distinguished alumnus Dr. Tomás Rivera.
Día de Muertos
On Tuesday, November 1, the Travis Texans held a Día de Muertos assembly. The Goodnight MS Mariachi group surprised the Texans with a special performance. Throughout the ceremony, students and staff shared stories explaining the history of the holiday.
Su-paw-star Support
Delta Pet Partners visited Crockett Elementary in November 1 to spread the love of reading in a very unique way. Loretta Mann and her therapy dog, Ace, make the perfect duo for the occassion. The two began their partnership in 2017 after Ace excelled at passing all of his necessary certification tests and screenings. Together, they have journeyed around Hays county and beyond, spreading paws-itivity in nursing homes and schools.

Employee Health & Wellness
On Monday, October 31, the San Marcos CISD Human Resources Department hosted the inaugural Employee Health & Wellness Boo Bash. All SMCISD staff members were invited to visit with vendors, receive various vaccines and enter their name to win prizes. Thank you to the local vendors and our dedicated HR team for making the health and wellness of our Rattler staff a priority.
Bringing Home the Bacon
On Friday, November 4, San Marcos High School students in Ms. Bryant's Forensic Science class conducted autopsies inside the San Marcos HS STEAM Center. While working in small groups, students were tasked with identifying the anatomy of a pig as part of their death investigation unit.
Volleyball Playoffs
On Tuesday, November 1, the San Marcos High School Volleyball team traveled to Smithson Valley to face the Clark Cougars in the first round of the 27-6A playoffs. Congratulations to first-year SMHS Head Coach, Megan Ollett, her coaching staff and our student-athletes on a tremendous season. We wish our SMHS volleyball seniors the best of luck next year and thank you for your service to Rattler Nation.
Playoff Bound
The San Marcos High School Varsity Football team stung the East Central Hornets on Friday, November 4 in a exciting come-from-behind 20-16 victory! The Rattlers are headed to playoffs and will take on the Brandeis Broncos on Friday, November 11 at Dub Ferris Athletic Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM.
Cardona's Corner Podcast
SMCISD is proud to bring you episode two of the Cardona's Corner Podcast - a podcast created to inform parents of district initiatives throughout the 2022-2023 academic school year. Episode two focuses on fentanyl, vaping and other drug issues facing our students today. Special thanks to our guests, San Marcos Police Department Chief Stan Standridge and Hays County Deputy Anthony Hipolito.
SMCISD Shoutout – Daniel Ruelas
The TexTESOL III (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Region III) Board of Directors named San Marcos High School Teacher, Daniel Ruelas, the 2022 TexTESOLer of the Year for Affiliate Region III. Mr. Ruelas was honored on Friday, November 4 at the TexTESOL State Conference in Houston, Texas. Congratulations, Mr. Ruelas!
