Rolling, Rolling, Rolling (and Walking) on 10/12!
As some of you know, I try to ride my bike to school 3-4 times a week when the weather is cooperating. As someone who learned to drive on the D.C. Beltway, being able to commute by bike on our bucolic backroads has been such a blessing! I’d love to see more kids riding bikes to school because more than being great exercise, riding a bike improves mood, reduces anxiety, and acts like fertilizer for the brain. In fact, a few years ago I helped write a grant for Montevideo to get a fleet of mountain bikes and we worked with Stanford on studying the cognitive effects of cycling on student academic performance. More information on the project can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ry9iyD9T-Ag and here: https://outridebike.org/ridingforfocus
A future grant I’ll be working on will be for a crossing guard at the intersection of Erickson and Route 33! In the meantime, please coordinate with your neighbors to participate in Roll/ Walk to School Day on Wednesday! From the School Nurse
If your child requires over the counter medication such as tylenol, ibuprofen or cough/cold medication to feel better then they need to remain home from school.
The Elementary schools are seeing an increase in Hand, Foot and Mouth disease. This is a very contagious virus that causes blisters in and around the mouth, blisters on the palms of the hands and feet. The virus can spread to others through an infected person’s
Nose and throat secretions, such as saliva, drool, or nasal mucus
Fluid from blisters or scabs
Children with hand, foot, and mouth disease are usually most contagious during the first week that they are sick. People can sometimes spread the virus to others for days or weeks after symptoms go away or if they have no symptoms at all.
If your child becomes ill at school and the school nurse feels your child is too sick to benefit from school or is contagious to other children, you will be called to come and take him/her home from school. It is essential that the school has a phone number where you can be contacted during the day and an emergency number in the event you cannot be reached. Please be sure that arrangements can be made to transport your child home from school and that childcare is available in case of illness. If your daytime or emergency phone number changes during the year, please notify the office at (540) 438-1965. These guidelines will help us protect all of our students. If you have any questions do not hesitate to call Nurse Angie.

Parent Portal
The parent portal is an online portal accessible anywhere on the web that parents can log in to and see all of their children in one place, their grades, assignments, scores, attendance, schedules, and teacher comments for each school your children attend.
Parents need to contact the school to get access information to create an account in PowerSchool.
