Keicher Top Turkey Contest Begins This Week! Here we go...
(My class won the trophy last year!)
Math homework: As I mentioned at conferences, I have chosen to "flip" my classroom in math. Homework each night is a video of the next day's lesson. Students are expected to watch the lesson each night and follow along on their lesson page. I provide the information that is being practiced the day. Students will get classroom time to work independently and get help while working. Getting this lesson as homework has already shown "significant" gains in participation, effort, and accuracy on daily work. I highly encourage the video lesson be done each night! Thanks for patience and support!
Educreations Videos:
App can be downloaded on Ipads and/or long in with the use of the Internet by going the login page for Educreations. By typing in "Educreations, login you will click/choose the first site listed. Writing across subjects: Students must spell words correctly that are found on the page(s), they must spell "No Excuse Words" correctly (lists will be provided as words are added to our word wall in the classroom), and they must write in complete sentences. That includes "restating" the question/topic prior to stating/giving the answer, idea, or when elaborating on an answer or drafting a paragraph.
Reading: Anytime students can read 20+ minutes a night I encourage it!

1. EXCITING NEWS – The PTO is sponsoring the eighth annual TOP TURKEY Contest from November 2-13. Students/teachers can purchase feathers by donating money or non-perishable food items to fill out their turkey. The turkey with the most feathers will be named TOP TURKEY and the class will win a party of their choice (ice cream, pizza, Subway???). Collected items will be assembled into food baskets and the donated money will be spent on meat, bread, dairy, and other food items of high demand. Baskets will be given to families in OUR SCHOOLS whose names have been “drawn”. Do you want your classroom to be the “TOP TURKEY”?
Donation/feather exchange rate
1 non-perishable = 2 feathers
25 cents = l feather
$5.00 = 40 feathers
Listen for announcements, check agendas, and read the Keicher “K”onnections to learn of SPECIALS that will earn you BONUS feathers. Top Turkey flier will be attached.
2. EASTERN BRANCH LIBRARY – Parents, remember that we have Levelled Readers and accelerated reading books to help with those important reading skills here at Eastern. We have already had parents checking out these great reading materials that are so helpful in developing reading skills. We also have tons of things to help with classroom assignments and homework, from books on just about anything to lots of online resources that the library purchases to help kids with their studies. Come by and ask our staff for more information.
3. MOBILE DENTIST will be here Wednesday, November 4th and possibly, Thursday, November 5th if we have enough students signed up. They will be doing dental exams, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants and follow up care. Each child will receive a free toothbrush. Forms were sent home last week. These forms must be turned in prior to this date to qualify for the service. If your child has had a dental cleaning within the last six (6) months, we’re sorry, but they are NOT eligible for mobile dental services at this time.
4. The MICHIGAN CENTER COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY will be open every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 6:30 -7:30 p.m. The pantry is located at the west end of Keicher. Follow the signs through the Pre-School playground gate. See dates above.
5. BOOK FAIR VOLUNTEERS - We would like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers for the Book Fair. We certainly couldn’t do it without your help. Profits ($1694.00) from the book fair went to buy books for your student’s classroom and the library.
6. Our next POPCORN day will be Friday, November 6th during lunch for $1.00 a bag (bigger bag). Due to state guidelines, we only offer plain popcorn.
7. The American Legion Post 324 at 1190 Falahee Rd will be handing out candy on Saturday, October 31st. They will have tables set up inside out of the weather. Children and parents can come in from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and receive candy from the various tables. This a safe alternative to trick or treating door to door. Hope to see you there.
